Setting up the photo booth to take pics of our newest kit.
Since the recipe for vermouth has so many ingredients, we make blends of the herbs, spices, and bitters to save you time when measuring them. Less time measuring = more time sipping Martinis.

About

Starter kits for DIY cocktail crafters.

I was inspired to make bitters kits when I first tried to make my own cocktail bitters at home. I didn't have much luck finding milk thistle seed and burdock root in the supermarket down the road and had to order them online in huge quantities. I knew I would never be able to use all of those ingredients before they became stale and I realized that there might be other people out there who want to experiment with making their own bitters but don't want to order a ton of weird herbs. I make these kits so other people can have fun with bitters without a huge investment.

We are always working on something new, from obscure tiki mixers to better tonic syrup. We introduced a new line of gin and vermouth kits in 2016 that let you explore some of the classic botanical spirits.

We are licensed as a business by the State of Nevada and we are licensed and inspected as a food business by Carson City. We are insured by the Food Liability Insurance Program, part of the Great American Insurance Group.

Frequently asked questions
Custom and personalized orders

We can accept cancellations or returns of custom orders that are not personalized (i.e. custom bitters kits.) For personalized items such as our flower press, orders cannot be cancelled or returned once we start production. If the item is damaged or defective, please contact us for a replacement.

Gift wrapping and packaging

Gift wrapping and personalized note cards are available for a small charge. If you would like your item gift wrapped, please contact us for a custom order. Since many of our items are sent as gifts, we do not include a paper receipt with prices in the package for domestic orders unless you request one. International orders may require a receipt with prices for customs processing.

International Shipping

We comply with all US and international laws regarding shipping of our products. We will not mark items as gifts or samples or state a lower value on the customs forms as this is illegal. The recipient is responsible for paying VAT or duties and they cannot be pre-paid.

If you frequently buy from outside the US, we highly recommend a shipping consolidation service. Your packages are sent to a US address, then bundled and shipped to you. We offer low cost delivery to a local consolidation company, contact us for details.

We cannot ship any items containing herbs or spices to Australia or New Zealand. Import laws for these countries are extremely restrictive regarding plant materials.

Which kit should I buy?

See our shop photos for a handy flowchart to help you decide. All of our bitters recipes and instructions are available on our blog at https://highdesertbotanicals.com/blogs

What is the difference between the bottles?

All of our bottles (except the blue Boston rounds) hold 1 ounce (30 ml) and use a rubber bulb and glass pipette (aka, eye dropper) to dispense the bitters.

The bottles with the ground glass pipette are the easiest to open but also the easiest to spill if knocked over. Barnes bottles are a little more secure and the rest of the bottles use a tight fitting screw-on cap.

The blue Boston round bottles hold 1.5 ounces (50 ml) and feature a euro dropper insert. You turn the bottle upside down and shake to dispense the bitters.

The amber bottles are best for protecting the bitters if stored in a bright location, such as a counter top. The clear bottles are best for showing off the color of the bitters.

Wholesale availability

Many of our items are available for wholesale purchases with minimum orders starting at less than $100 with bigger discounts for bigger orders. We also offer starter packs that include shelf signs for our Micro Kits. Please email us for a copy of our wholesale catalog and price list.
