If you’re here for bass flies, that isn’t my wheelhouse, and, frankly, never will be.
:( However, please check out TheMinnowPond here on Etsy. Remington ties all my bass flies, exclusively, and he is a phenomenal bass fly artist who also comes with a river guide sponsorship - so you know he’s good.

About HillshireFlies

Sales 93
On Etsy since 2020

Raising and sourcing local, superior quality, cruelty-free feathers and furs in order to produce high-quality, hand-tied, custom, Missourian-made flies.

Specializing in high-quality, hand tied, Missourian-made tenkara and North Country flies. (Other types of flies are also available upon request.)

#Featured in Tenkara Angler! 19OCT2020 & 18JAN2021#

All of my flies are created using as many local resources as seasons and bird/mammal life cycles allow. I believe that by sourcing cruelty-free and sustainable feathers and furs from naturally occurring deaths, seasonal molting, or legal hunting is key to maintaining the abundance and propagation of our natural animal resources.

All of my Phoenix feathers come from either my own Phoenix Venture or my breeder’s Phoenix Odyssey - as do my varying seasonal selection of exotics. My partridge, chukar, and ringneck pheasant are sourced locally from a hunting dog trainer. My silver and golden pheasant is from my own nye. My peacock is also sourced and dyed locally by a fiber craftsman. I get other regional feathers and furs as opportunities allow throughout different times of the year. I harvest a lot of my own squirrel and some rabbit. My friends handle the deer. My family has a lifetime supply of caribou, fox, and beaver. My elk comes from a friend the next town over. Conducting business with other ethically conscious local sports- and craftspeople ensures that I, and by extension you, are not supporting foreign slaughter farms from where the majority of fly-tying feathers originate. My birds eat a variety of high quality proteins and nutrient dense foods that keep their feathers vibrant, beautiful, and pliable.

So have a look around! My selection is small and it changes frequently. I like to tie with the seasons and am able to offer classic and one-of-a-kind flies as a result!

“Custom” flies do not have to be cost prohibitive. Of course, bulk discounts are available. I’d love to work with you. Shoot me a message! ▄︻̷̿┻̿═━一
