Making candles. Loving the Earth and our neighbors.

We are a wife/husband team out of Charlotte, NC.

My wife does most of the candle pouring. I do most of the photography and store maintenance.

She has been making candles for over 12 years now. My wife has always been frugal, so when she started buying the unwanted, partially burned pillar candles from yard sales, it was for the cost. But with more research, she realized that maybe it was better for the environment. Who knows what one paraffin candle will do as it breaks down over time in a landfill? What about thousands of them?

So she created a votive candle that, when burned in a snug container, will burn cleanly, and all of the way down, without leaving any wasted wax.

Our container candles are a soy blend that will burn almost all of the way down. Again, leaving very little wasted wax.

We won't go into the "Soy vs Paraffin vs Palm" debate here. There are a multitude of arguments for choosing one over the other. What we offer, is a highly scented, great smelling candle that will burn well and leave little to no waste to end up in land fills.

Check out our shop http://www.etsy.com/shop/HippieCandleGarden!

You will also notice that we do not use labels on our jars or containers, so there is no messy glue residue for you to clean off. We want to make it as easy as possible for you to reuse our jars and containers.

We would like to get to a place with candle sales when we can include a return package so that you (our customer) can send us your unwanted wax and we can turn it into something beautiful.

Help us help the Earth, because we are all in it together.

Another reason we sell candles is MARRIAGE EQUALITY. A portion of all of our candle sales goes to Equality NC. We want to help all of our Gay and Lesbian friends in NC in their fight to marry whomever they love.

Candle Burning Guidelines:

When burning a candle, always trim the wick to 1/4 inch (6.4mm) before lighting for the first time. We use self trimming wicks, but it is always a good idea to check to make sure the wick is at the optimum level before burning.

In order to promote an even, level burn, always burn a candle until a pool has formed, and at least the top layer of the candle has melted. This will not only provide the best scent throw, it will improve the longevity of your candle.

When burning a candle or recently burned, keep it out of reach of animals and small children.

When you burn a Hippie Candle Garden jar or container candle, be sure to stop burning it at least a 1/4 inch (6.4mm) from bottom. At that point, it's time to wash your jar or container and reuse it! (They are great for cocktails! ;-)
