From skip diver to shop owner
Collecting and searching out treasures is in my blood. As a small girl I was regularly lowered into skips by my mother to retrieve a broken old chair or some shiny nic-nak which she would spend many hours cleaning, repairing and totally reinventing. Her inspiration still fuels my magpie instincts today. This was back when “vintage” was referred to as second-hand, used or simply as rubbish by many people. It is a life-long passion. I scoured jumble sales / yard sales / junk shops / charity shops (and skips!!) in Britain for many years and now I am so fortunate to live in the beautiful Ariege department, South West France. Here there are so many opportunities to find incredible handmade clothing, textiles and objets d'art at vide greniers, brocantes, depot ventes and the occasional charity shop.
I opened Histoires 4 years ago after my collecting was threatening to take over our house. I have always been rather more maximalist (is that a word??) than minimalist so now, with the excuse of hunting out great French vintage items for my customers, I am busy filling up a barn with treasures to share

Small, flat, light items are still sent using the la poste "lettre prioritaire" letter service which has no tracking or insurance. These services can be added for an additional charge.
Small "paquets" are sent using the la poste Paquet Prio International service which has no tracking or insurance. There is a weight limit of 2kg on this service and certain large items cannot be shipped this way. Extra services such as tracking, signature on delivery or insurance are available at an extra charge, please add the upgrade option you want or contact me for a price.
All parcels with a value over $170 or weighing over 2kg will be sent via the Colissimo service This service requires a signature on delivery, includes insurance and is trackable. I will also require a contact phone number for the shipping company.
Please be aware that I ship from France and delivery times outside France and the EU can be longer. Please take this into account when placing your order. I'm afraid I cannot control delivery times and am not responsible for postal delays. If you need your item before a certain date please contact me prior to purchase for a price on expedited shipping.
I will happily ship worldwide and will combine shipping on multiple items. I endeavor to send all items within 3 days of receiving payment however I am not able to ship over weekends.
Please note that buyers are responsible for any and all duties and customs charges that may be incurred.
In cases of non delivery the item will be returned to me. I will refund the purchase price of the item upon receipt of the item. For customers in the EU the return postage is free. For customers outside the EU the return postage is chargeable and I will deduct this cost from the item cost and refund the balance.
SHIPPING COSTS FOR BOOKS: I ship books with the low cost Postal service: "Livres et Brochures". They usually take 10 -21 days, however please be aware that some parcels can take over 28 days.Please be patient. If you require a quicker service with tracking, insurance etc please contact me. Please note this service is not available to French destinations.
I wrap the items very carefully however occasionally an item is damaged while in transit. When you receive your parcel, if you see that it is opened, damaged, broken, always open it in front of the postman and ask him to sign a statement if the content is damaged. With this paper , the French poste will reimburse the content at the declared value for all the parcels with insurance. Without that, the insurance will NOT be functional. I cannot be held responsible for breakages during shipping if insurance was not purchased.
Postal costs and delivery delays are beyond my control.

Refunds and Exchanges
Please notify me by email or Etsy convo within 3 days of receipt regarding your concern.
If possible, re-use the packaging the item was sent in if returning it. The shipping with tracking is paid for by the buyer.
Your money will be refunded as soon as I receive the item. The item must not be damaged or altered. The item must be returned within 14 days of purchase.
Please note that sewing patterns, layaway purchases and sale items are non returnable.
Additional policies and FAQs
Vintage clothing generally does not conform to modern sizing and will have been previously worn, buying vintage means rarely perfect. It may often have been altered to fit and evidence of alterations may be apparent. Please check all measurements and compare to an item of clothing that fits you well. Contact me for any additional measurements or information before buying and I will be happy to oblige!
Frequently asked questions
Do you offer Layaway?
I am open to a layaway plan for more expensive items with a combined value of over $100 (including shipping). This way you can split your payments over a period of time between 1 and 3 months. We will agree the payments at the beginning and then your first payment reserves your item.
Please note that after you begin your payments I am unable to refund you or cancel the transaction as the item is reserved for you and unavailable for sale to anyone else. The item will stay on reserve until you finish your final payment.
Can I get a discount?
I will consider offers on single or multiple purchases on any of my items. It's always worth asking me!
Don't forget that combining shipping on multiple purchases delivered to the same address can give significant savings.
I offer all of my returning customers a 10% discount off their next purchase.
The quickest and most reliable shipping I offer is using the Colissimo service. Shipping times with Colissimo are 5 - 8 working days from dispatch to delivery. If you want to add this service to your order please purchase the Colissimo upgrade.
If you want a quotation for a quicker service please contact me before your purchase as these services are very expensive.

Once you have ordered, please continue to check your Etsy conversations, just in case I need any further information (such as a contact phone number) in order to ship your item.
Cancellation of sale
Your right to cancel starts when you place your order and ends 14 days from the day you receive it. To cancel an order Histoires must be notified either via Etsy message or by email. For EU buyers, a link to a withdrawal form will be included in your receipt email. You are welcome, but not required, to use this form.
Once your return is authorized, you have 14 days to send the goods back. I recommend you send it with a proof of return, such as a tracking number. I will send the refund within 14 days of receiving the returned item via the original method of payment.
Can you combine shipping on multiple purchases?
I will combine shipping on multiple purchases wherever possible.
If you want an exact price for shipping on your order please contact me before you buy so that I can set up a custom listing for all the items you want with the correct shipping charge.
Please note that it is not always possible to combine shipping on large / heavy / fragile items as the economical La Poste service has an upper limit of 2kg. It may actually be cheaper to send 2 or more separate parcels if the items are very heavy.
Can I reserve an item?
Yes! I am happy to reserve items for up to a maximum of 1 month. If you would like to reserve an item I will ask you to pay 10% deposit.
