A quilt is useful, and decorative, and can embody comfort, love, and connection.
Why are my quilts so expensive?
My quilts are handmade by me, demonstrating skill, artistry, and personality. They are different from a blanket you can buy at a big-box store; each one is unique, and of a certain level of quality and expertise.
Consider too, the cost of materials. Fabric is typically $12/yard, for the front and the back of a quilt, and there’s batting between the layers. Thread is $12/spool. There are countless tools, like rotary cutters and mats, sewing machine needles, and specialty scissors, and patterns, in use constantly. My sewing machine requires maintenance. And I take classes and workshops to learn new skills.
A quilt takes many hours to make. Planning and revising, cutting and sewing, then more cutting and sewing. There can easily be 50 hours or more in a quilt.
If you buy one of my quilts, you will help me to keep making more, thank you! And if my quilts don’t appeal to you, that’s okay! It’s like buying jewelry, get what suits you!
