About

Making a life, not just a Living

I went to college for Elementary Education, however after graduating, getting married to my high school sweetheart, Aaron, and reporting to our first duty station with the Coast Guard in Newport, Rhode Island, I found myself searching for a way to contribute and pay those college bills!

I became a consultant for a home based direct selling business called Tastefully Simple, that my mother-in-law was involved in. I love it and it has kept me busy while Aaron is away for up to 6 weeks at a time with his job. I also found a job as a nanny that offered me lots of time to myself while babysitting. Then I began to realize the struggle of balancing my home life and work life. There just wasn't enough time in the day to get stuff done at home. While Aaron was away, I often found myself putting off the cooking and cleaning and spending my time doing what I loved: crafting. I enjoy most any range from paint-by-numbers, stamping wrapping paper, faux painting my dining room walls, making greeting cards, scrap-booking, and finally sewing with felt.

I realized that I needed a job that I loved, just like I loved working from home with Tastefully Simple, even if that meant receiving a lesser income than a traditional job would provide. After quitting my current job, working very little hours at a local coffee shop, and then finding a part-time nanny position, I found myself with more time for cleaning . . . NO! I found myself sewing and crafting more and more with my free time.

As I found my hours as a nanny decreasing as the children got older, I in turn received a greater opportunity to use my creativity and produce items for my Etsy shop as well as gifts for my family. I love that I have the opportunity to make my life filled with the things I love (as opposed to the restrictions a traditional job can have). Now hardly a day passes with out me taking out a project to work on. And it means a lot to me when my husband says he is proud of me when another order rolls in.

Since the military nature of my husband's job keeps us moving every couple of years, I am thankful that my Etsy business (and Tastefully Simple) is something I can pick up and take with us, where ever we will move, making a life, not just a living.

Since I was a little girl, I have always loved making crafts. I enjoyed occasional art lessons and received an art minor in college. Using my creativity is a big part of me.

Thank you so much for visiting my Etsy shop! My motto is homemade is where the heart is. I love the look of homemade items and you might notice in some of my descriptions that I am very honest about the faults (if any) in my products. I also love whimsical items, because they make me smile. I try to keep all of my items either very useful or very fun! And of course, very made from the heart and made of felt!

The felt I use is high quality polyester fiber made from 100% post-consumer recycled plastic bottles.
