Too rustic for my taste, these slippers had unfinished edges and the sewing was crude. The soles were processed with something that gave off a very unpleasant odor.

Everyone has their own taste and that is entirely OK. The soles smelled like the leather dye I used. Some people love it, and some people don't. =)

Just got my large notebook today and it is even nicer than I expected! Gorgeous purple leather, usefull pockets...this will feed my stationary habit nicely! This is the third piece I have bought from this shop and everything is top quality and beautifully crafted. Next, the three ring binder....

About

The Story of Homestead Leather

I grew up around the leather craft business. My dad and uncle got their start in leather back in the 1960's. Through the years, they made all kinds of things in leather and had retail stores as well. When I was young, my dad stepped away from the retail business and focused on his own craft. We went to fine art and craft shows all over the country. I worked in my dad's shop as a boy, stuffing bags, setting rivets, painting the building and even one summer digging out the basement!
I eventually left home and served eleven years in the US Army. When I finally got out, I decided to start my own leather craft business. So, with a few machines my dad graciously gave me and some money I had saved, I started Homestead Leather LLC on the old family farm, where seven generations of our family have lived for over one hundred fifty years.
Today, my shop is co-located with my dad's business, MacClay Leather Design. You can see his work at MacClayLeather.com.
All my life, my master Yeshua has held my hand and guided me every step of the way, even when I didn't want him to. He has protected me in war, rejoiced with me in good times and blessed me through hard times. He has endowed me with a talent for leather work that I absolutely cannot take credit for. And so I give credit where credit is due; I totally credit YHWH for all that I have and all that I am, and I seek to live my life as a witness to the dramatic life-changing power of Yeshua.
With this in mind, I strive for excellence in my leather work. I use the best quality materials I can find; I do not believe in cutting corners by using cheap leather or hardware. I use fine American Oak-Tanned leather in my products. I also frequently use Kip, which is extremely dense and therefore strong, yet remains flexible. This combination of leathers gives my products a unique style that you will find nowhere else. I use solid brass or stainless steel hardware and strong nylon thread. Because I care about the quality of my work, I guarantee everything I make for life against defects in materials and workmanship. With proper care, my products will last decades.

I hope you are having as much fun as I am!
Blessings,
Brian

Frequently asked questions

MONOGRAMS:

I can stamp your name or initials on most of my products, to make it that much more special! If you don't see an option for a monogram on the listing, don't fret. Simply drop me a note and I will be happy to help you out!
I have seven letter sets to choose from, with a variety of sizes and fonts. The larger letter sets are easier to keep straight and are better for longer names than the small 1/4 inch sets.
*Please note that all sales are final for customized products. (I will of course happily remedy any error on my part.)

See the Monograms and Embossing section of my website for some examples:
http://homesteadleather.com/more/monograms__embossing

CUSTOM WORK:

I do quite a bit of custom work. While custom work costs significantly more because of the extra time involved, you can get exactly what you want. I can do something simple such as changing inside pockets for carrying specific items, or I can design something completely new for you. Feel free to contact me to see what may be possible!

See the Custom Work section of my website for some examples of work I have done in the past:
http://homesteadleather.com/more/custom_work

LEATHER CARE:

Properly cared for, my products will last a lifetime or three. We have seen leather items from the civil war come in the shop that are still in excellent condition because they were cared for properly!

Over time, leather will dry out and needs to have oil put back into it. As a courtesy, I sell Neatsfoot Oil Compound to care for your purchase; it is the oil I use every day because of its superior quality and I highly recommend it.

You can find Neatsfoot Oil in the LEATHER CARE & SUPPLIES section of my shop. Or, you may find it directly here:
https://www.etsy.com/listing/488112584

**Never use Mink Oil on my bags because it will rot the nylon thread and is NOT covered in my lifetime guarantee against defects.

OUT IN THE RAIN:

Water will not damage my products. The finish I use is water resistant, but water may penetrate the leather some. The lining I use is a waterproof rip-stop nylon which will keep out the rain so you need not worry about your electronics and other items getting wet when you get caught out in the rain. Because, lets face it, that happens to all of us!

Water will cause the leather to dry out more quickly, so if your bag gets wet frequently, you should put oil back into it more often. (see Leather Care above)

LIFETIME GUARANTEE:

My goal is to make the absolute best quality products possible; therefore, I guarantee everything I make for life against defects in materials and workmanship. With this in mind, I use only the finest quality leather, heavy nylon thread, rip-stop nylon lining, solid brass and stainless steel hardware available. If something goes wrong and it is my fault, I will happily fix it for free!

PROCESSING TIME:

How long will it take to ship my order? Usually about a week or less.

Some products I have in stock. But, because I offer many colors and customizations, I frequently make items to order.

Usually it takes me less than a week to get orders shipped, but it may take as long as 3 weeks, depending on how many orders I have to make and my craft show schedule. (http://homesteadleather.com/more/fine_arts__craft_shows)

If you are in a hurry for some reason, feel free to contact me and I will be happy to ensure you get your order in time!
