Fifty-five years of drawing led me to Etsy!

The path which led to 'House of the Green Lady' probably began at the point where I was just old enough to hold a pencil! That would place me in the early 1960's.. Growing up, drawing was always a major part of my identity. I was brought up with fairytales, nature programmes on T.V and long walks ..and with a brother five years older, I spent a lot of time in a world of my own. Nothing really has changed! After my own children grew up I finally seized the chance to see whether I could actually earn a living from my art. Initially it was a struggle - I made a few sales of my paintings and prints at local art and craft events, but this was never going to be enough to live on..After a lot of thought, I decided to try pyrography. I saw then ( and this is still the important thing ) that pyrography would allow me to create individual works of art and craftmanship which would be unique and meaningful to my customers. My lifelong fascination with detail and tiny things had trained my eye, allowing me to create on an unusually small scale, so it was only natural that I would end up making jewellery!
I still dwell very much in my own magical little world..with foundations of Myth, Magic and Fairytale laid all those years ago..and supported also by my Buddhist meditation practice. From this world I bring forth strange little characters, animals and verses which appear in my paintings and drawings and pyrography pieces.
I find it extremely rewarding and fulfilling to create and send my artwork all around the world, knowing that it is treasured by those who receive it .

I love creating my various art and jewellery items and gain enormous pleasure from the knowledge that these things are treasured by those who buy and receive them. I strive to make each and every piece special and beautiful and the best it can be of its kind. Particularly where my pyro-jewellery is concerned I am careful to use only the best quality wood pieces. I use only SOLID wood - no plywood, and each piece has a number of layers of preservative wood polish applied to offer a degree of water resistance, but I do not use varnish, as I do not find the effect pleasing. Jewellery items are supplied with care instructions. Prints, original art and all jewellery items are signed or initialled and dated on the back.
Prints are posted in cellophane wrapper and stiff backed card envelopes, and jewellery items are wrapped carefully and sent in padded envelopes. I try not to be too excessive with packaging as the 'Green Lady' tries to balance practicality with one eye on the environment...
