Yarn does not look like the photo very dull colors by comparison not what I expected but the fiber is soft and nice.
Megan responded on Sep 27, 2022
I'm sorry that your skein of 'Grounded' did not meet your expectations. I make every effort to photograph the yarn as accurately as possible. Please note that skeins of the same colorway are never identical. By Nature, each skein of hand-dyed yarn will have its own unique characteristics and intensity varies from batch to batch.
My Maker's Life to Passion Project
I can not remember a time in my life when I was not a maker. As a child, my sister and I would spend countless hours creating mixed-media masterpieces to enter into local coloring contests. When we were not preoccupied with our crayons and markers we would be wrapping colorful embroidery floss into our hair or plugging away at a latch hook kit.
Art and creativity continued to be a major part of my life throughout my school years and into college where I began a part-time job at an art & craft store. This is when my interest in fiber arts took off and I taught myself to knit.
In 2018, after having my second child I decided to become more involved in the knitting community. My love for yarn and knitting burst open as I started to push myself to create more challenging projects. I would daydream about creating heirloom, one-of-a-kind pieces for my children to someday pass on to their little ones. It was this train of thought that dropped me into the world of Indie Dyers!
I was completely enamored with the idea of hand-dyed yarn. Each skein, unique and beautiful in its slight variations. I loved the surprise that each stitch would bring as I would knit tonal and speckled colorways. The ebb and flow of the hand-painted colors on the finished fabric is majestic! All of the beautiful qualities that hand-dyed yarn possesses swept me up and started me on the path to becoming an Indie Dyer myself!
In 2019, with the support of my husband and family, I established Huck & Rae Fiber Studio. An independent, small-batch, hand-dyed yarn company. We began the process of finishing our basement and setting up an office and studio space for me to work. In May 2021, my dreams were realized and I launched my Etsy shop! My goal is to create unique, artistically crafted yarn that speaks to your heart!
In addition to running her business, Megan is a stay-at-home mom caring for her two rambunctious toddlers and wife to her wonderfully supportive husband, Jeff. They live in beautiful Colorado Springs, with their American Bulldog mutt Tyson.

Frequently asked questions
Is your yarn ethically sourced?
Yes! Huck & Rae Fiber Studio yarn is ethically sourced and 100% mueseling-free.
What do you use to dye your yarn?
I use professional acid dyes and citric acid to dye ethically sourced animal fiber. After the yarn has been dyed, it is rinsed with lukewarm water and a gentle detergent.
Is Huck & Rae Fiber Studio pet friendly?
Huck & Rae Fiber Studio yarn is stored in a pet-free and smoke-free space. However, my dye studio is located in the basement of my family home which houses our 90lb American Bulldog mutt, Tyson. With that being said, there is a slight chance that his fur could come into contact with the yarn. Rest assured, that every effort is made to ensure that this does not happen.
How should I care for the items I create with the hand-dyed yarn?
Handwash in tepid water with a gentle detergent. Lay flat to dry. Please note, some color bleeding may occur during the first couple of washes. Red, purple, magenta, and blue-based colorways are more prone to bleeding. This is normal and will subside after a couple of washes. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
I purchased more than one skein of the same colorway, and they seem to be a little different. What’s the deal?
Huck & Rae Fiber Studio yarn is hand-dyed in small batches. This means that a specific colorway will be very similar across skeins, but not one is the same. Hand-dyed yarn is special, each individual skein is its own work of art!
Just a note: When using hand-dyed yarn in your projects it is highly recommended that you buy more than you think you need. This will allow you to alternate skeins every few rows to prevent color pooling (If this is not to your aesthetic).

Are you able to wind my new yarn purchase into a cake?
