About

Books To Read and Collect: Vintage Science Fiction, Literature, and Pulps from the Forties to the 1980s.

Books to read: I have always loved book and stories.

My earliest memories are of my Mom and Dad reading me a story before bedtime.
My mother always gave me books as gifts, and my Dad would bring home comics such as "House of Mystery", "Magnus Robot Fighter 4000 A.D.", and "Man-Thing". Pretty serious stuff for a 5 year old!

The first novel I read that had an impact on me was a Fifties hardcover copy of Jules Verne's "20,000 Leagues Beneath The Sea". It wasn't a child's adapted version, but the "real thing". I had been a fan of the Disney film from the moment I saw it at a free Saturday afternoon showing (via Bell and Howell projector!) at our local library. When I discovered the book on the shelf in the library in our home, I immediately dove in! It took some work, I was perhaps 8 or 9 years old, but I hung in there and loved it, re-reading it many times over the following years.

After that, either "The Hobbit" or "The Fellowship of the Ring" came along - I think I read the LOTR trilogy first and then went back to the Hobbit.

Of course, there were some Hardy Boys along the way, for "light reading". Some Edgar Allen Poe from the school library, the X-Men and Fantastic Four, and various other things that didn't make much of an impression, as their titles are lost to the passing of decades...

Next serious stop was the original Foundation series, came as a recommend from my 8th grade history teacher who noted I was always reading and looking for something worthy. Turns out I was able to land a vintage set that my step father had squirreled away at some point after he had read it.

And that takes it to the heart of the matter: I like to read good stories, good books, but I love to read vintage books. Yes, the words are the same in a new reprint, but there is something about reading a good, solid tale from the pages of a book that is as old - or older - than I am.

And that is really the simple core of what Hudson Vintage Pulp and Rocket Works is about:
>> The love of reading...
>> Quality science fiction - or perhaps we should say "speculative" fiction...
>> Wonderful vintage books, with their smells, and fantastical cover art, and a history all their own.

Enjoy!

SHIPPING
I do my best to offer the best balance between reliable delivery of your purchase and reasonable cost

USPS with Tracking (UNINSURED)
USPS with tracking is the default shipping option because of it's ease of use and relative reliability and reasonable price. Domestic U.S. shipments typically take 3-5 days once an order ships.

EXPRESS SHIPPING (INSURED)
Express shipping options that are insured are available at a reasonable cost upon request. Please contact me for details prior to making a purchase.

In the unlikely event of a damaged item, unless you requested insurance, I cannot offer a refund. We make effort to make sure that your purchase is protected from moisture and/or folding/crushing. If you are concerned, please request that the item be shipped with insurance, which starts at an additional $1.95 per $50 of value.

By USPS guidelines a package is considered lost if it has not arrived within six weeks of the shipping date. A replacement only ships after the full six week period.

Refunds and Exchanges
Our goal is for you to enjoy your purchase for years to come.

We understand that sometimes a refund may be required - we handle these on a case by case basis.

PRINTS / ART
In general, our print refund policy is as follows:
Every item we offer is a limited edition print or a one of a kind original piece of art. As such, the item must be returned within 14 days of receipt to us in original, pristine and resalable condition.
To the extent possible, the item should be returned in original packaging to ensure the best possible chance of safe return to us - buyer pays for the shipping cost, including insurance.
If the print or original piece is not in pristine condition, we cannot offer a refund because we are unable to offer it to another collector. In these circumstances, we will be happy to return it to you at your own expense.

If the returned item is found to be in original, pristine and resalable condition, then a refund will be issued minus a 20% restocking fee. This re-stocking fee helps to offset the expenses incurred by us during the original transaction (i.e. printing, shipping, and selling fees).

Please contact us, before returning the item, if you are unhappy with your purchase for any reason.

VINTAGE ITEMS:
All vintage items are sold "as is".
I work carefully to be as descriptive and accurate as possible in vintage item desciptions, but from time to time a minor blemish of some type may be overlooked. All vintage items are carefully packaged to ensure they arrive to you in the same condition in which they were at time of shipping.

If you have any concerns about the condition of any vintage items, please feel free to send me a note to ask before you buy... I am happy to tell you anything I know.
