About

We are mother and daughter who both love shopping for, collecting, sorting, stacking, cutting and sewing fabric.

Mary Lynn majored in drawing and minored in design at Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles where her medium of choice was fabric. After graduating, she kept experimenting with fabric. Some years later a friend asked her to collaborate on a tile mural. She thought of Mary Lynn because at the time she was drawing on graph paper and quilting with squares and her designs would easily translate into tile.

This started her career as a public artist in Southern California, working mostly with mosaic on exterior projects, but using many other kinds of media for interior spaces. Soon, her daughter Amy got roped into being her studio assistant on many projects.

But she did miss working with fabric and still had quite a stash put aside—in fact she kept buying fabric even though she wasn’t sewing. Amy was about to call Fabric Hoarders Anonymous…so we decided to make handbags, resurrecting an old pattern from the past.

Growing up with her parents who are both artists meant Amy has acquired a keen sense of aesthetics. While Mary Lynn brings years of experience with design and color, Amy brings a fresh, inventive, contemporary point of view.

Even though we each have our own studio, we have the most fun when we meet up to tweak our designs, choose fabric combinations, and make the one-of-a-kind beads that go on our handbags.

We have been on Etsy since 2013, starting with our Trona Timeshare shop. Check it out! We feature more art works there by team member Jesus (Jess) Dominguez—husband and dad.

We took a bit of a break from sewing during 2014 to 2015 because we were designing and fabricating a public art project for our home town of La Mesa. This was a large gazebo with mosaic and sculptural elements in the downtown village area. In 2016 we decided to open a second Etsy shop with a name more related to what we love—color and pattern—for our handbag line, Hue By 2.

Lately we have concentrated on our small, handy, crossbody bag and we are planning to add more items, including a larger bag that we used to carry on Trona Timeshare. So keep checking Hue By 2 for that and other items.
