Humble Sock Co. is really a family affair. I make the socks, my husband provides support and our daughter is in charge of product development using the leftover bits of yarn. Maybe in the future it will expand into a real company, but for now it’s just us and this is our story...

Why Humble Sock Co.? Well after all socks are the humblest piece of clothing we wear. Others seldom see what adorns our feet and yet socks are the hardest wearing item we use, and paramount for comfort throughout the day. There is nothing quite as uncomfortable as an ill fitting pair of socks. So often socks are taken for granted, but now is the time to throw out the boring white crew socks and bring in socks that are fun, funky or beautiful and yet do the job even better than those factory repeats.

But the Humble doesn’t just reflect socks..... We are not looking for riches because we've found happiness in the simple things. A good cup of coffee, watching our girls play, exploring the Great out doors, going down the road holding hands...

For me life is about relationships. In the long run that's all that matters and so I try and keep all relationships as my top priority whether it is the briefest encounter or the deep long term type. This philosophy, along with my 'tiny house' lifestyle, has also led me to take a new look at my relationship with 'things'.

My family and I are living in a 34' airstream, our 'Silver Bubble'. Slowly we are renovating it and turning it into our means of exploration, our very own snail shell. My 'studio' is a corner, can you even call it a corner in a rounded space? Any way, we are forced to put a lot of thought into what we bring into our small space.

Every object, every article of clothing, even all our groceries are scrutinized before entering our domain. "Will it fit?" is usually the first question. The more important question though is what is our relationship with this object and what relationships did it take to get it here? What will the relationship continue to be and is it worth it?

Every item tells a story, from a painting on a wall to pair of socks. It's a story about where it came from, what thoughts and feelings went into, whose hands have touched it, what relationships were harmed or strengthened because of it. And the story is still being written...how does this object effect me or my family now? What will become of it in the future?

I chose socks because they are necessary, they are small, and they also provide an unexpected canvas for creativity.
