Como muchos, soy una mujer que usa muchos sombreros. Además de mi carrera profesional, soy madre de tres hijos de Oscar, Lorelei y Henry, socia de mi esposo, Alex, que es ama de casa a tiempo completo, y yo "moonlight" como propietaria de una pequeña empresa de Hummingbird Silver aquí en Etsy. Cómo llegué hasta aquí...
A veces tomamos un camino sinuoso para encontrar nuestro camino, pero finalmente cerramos el círculo. Pasé por tres fases y cursos principales de estudio durante mi carrera universitaria. Diseño Gráfico, especialidad # 2 de 3, incluyó estudios intensivos en bellas artes e historia del arte. Mi primera formación formalizada en bellas artes mejoró mi aprecio por el arte y el diseño e incrustó mi pasión por crear aún más profundamente en el tejido de lo que soy.
Antes del entrenamiento, mi trabajo era únicamente instintivo. Si bien el instinto está siempre presente y es una fuerza impulsora incluso ahora, el entrenamiento agrega un elemento más estructurado: una conciencia intelectual del equilibrio y el movimiento. Esa conciencia es útil. Diseñar es resolver problemas, y la búsqueda del equilibrio es la clave del rompecabezas.
Lo curioso es que los cursos de mi primera carrera universitaria, la ciencia, también son útiles. Al diseñar, es importante tener en cuenta el movimiento, el desgaste y la durabilidad. Aunque la física no era mi curso de ciencias favorito (¡era la genética!), ¡su comprensión es enormemente útil con el diseño de joyas!

Desde una perspectiva formativa, supongo que se podría decir que el diseño de joyas ha estado en proceso de creación durante mucho tiempo para mí, pero hace dos años, finalmente culminó en la creación de Hummingbird Silver. Se ha convertido en mi salida para expresar mi lado creativo y un método para mantener el equilibrio personal. Supongo que es una especie de cosa Zen calmar mi mente después de un día ajetreado.
Diseñar y elaborar joyas es mi medio para traducir la inspiración creativa en un resultado tangible. Cuando una idea me golpea, es como trabajar a través de un rompecabezas para que cobre vida, una obsesión hasta que un trabajo está completo. Me encanta combinar diferentes elementos en busca del interés visual y el equilibrio: pulido y crudo, brillante y oxidado, facetado y suave, natural y hecho por una mujer.
Compro materiales que me encantan (color, reflejo de la luz, forma o tamaño) sin saber exactamente cómo los reuniré. Sé que, si me encanta, lo usaré eventualmente. Para inspirarme, pruebo una variedad de materiales juntos hasta que encuentro algo especial, y a veces, incluso después de que se completa una pieza, obtengo una segunda ola de inspiración. Agregaré a la pieza o comenzaré de nuevo para dar vida a la idea.

How I got here...
Sometimes we take a winding road to find our way but eventually come full circle. I went through three phases and major courses of study during my college career. Graphic Design, major #2 of 3, included intensive studies in fine arts and art history. My first formalized training in fine arts enhanced my appreciation for art and design and embedded my passion-to-create even more deeply into the fabric of who I am.
Prior to the training, my work was solely instinctual. While instinct is ever-present and a driving force even now, training adds a more structured element - an intellectual awareness of balance and movement. That awareness comes in handy. Designing is problem solving, and the pursuit of balance is the key to the puzzle.
The funny thing is that courses from my first college major, science, also come in handy. When designing, it is important to consider motion, wear and durability. Although physics wasn't my most favorite science course (It was genetics!), an understanding of it is enormously helpful with jewelry design!

From a formative perspective, I guess you could say that jewelry design has been long in-the-making for me, but two years ago, it finally culminated in the creation of Hummingbird Silver. It has become my outlet to express my creative side and a method to maintain personal balance. I guess it's kind of a Zen thing to quiet my mind after a busy day.
Designing and crafting jewelry is my means to translate creative inspiration into a tangible result. When an idea hits me, it's like working through a puzzle to make it come alive, an obsession until a work is complete. I love to combine different elements in pursuit of visual interest and balance - polished and raw, shiny and oxidized, faceted and smooth, natural and woman made.
I buy materials that I love (color, light reflection, shape or size) without knowing exactly how I'll bring them together. I know that, if I love it, I'll use it eventually. To get inspired, I try a variety of materials together until I find something special, and sometimes, even after a piece is completed, I'll get a second wave of inspiration. I'll either add to the piece or start over again to fully bring the idea to life.

There is no end to learning and growing and the pursuit of balance, and my Etsy journey has offered up plenty of it!
