About

Diamonds In The Dirt.

Separated from my camera and my photographer’s way of life by the arrival of my little bundle of joy I realised that the frustration I was feeling wasn’t caused by all the 3am feeds but by the fact that I wasn’t doing anything creative. I had no outlet.

With a baby comes the urge to nest and so when I discovered a stunning vintage silk Japanese Obi belt scrap it inspired me to try making cushions with it for my dining chairs. I love to rummage, it’s like treasure hunting and when you find the ‘thing’ that you can see a new life for it’s like shooting a photo that you love - a door of possibility swings open and you can just see a glimmer of what’s beyond, and it’s exciting. It’s a treasure.

Friends soon wanted things made for them and for gifts for others and I got to it, soon it looked like I needed a shop so I turned to Etsy and went global. I ramped up the vintage hunting to full tilt and began to find interesting themes that recurred: maps, Britain, moon landings, fire engines. I was becoming a curator and upcycler, giving a new use to unloved and forgotten things. I began to get feedback from customers and discovered that the attention to detail I was almost obsessive about was being appreciated and that makes me happy. I love to know that my creations find homes with people who love them too.

This year I won the Brand Amplifier award for female entrepreneurs and have also just won a place at School for Creative Start-ups, run by Doug Richard of Dragon's Den fame. My book 'Creating The Vintage Look' (Cico Books) is a collection of 35 'How-To' projects on turning vintage finds into original upcycled treasures and will be published worldwide in Autumn 2013.

Frequently asked questions

Care instructions

For all our vintage pieces we recommend spot cleaning only.

Gift wrapping and packaging

If the item is intended as a gift for another, you can contact us to arrange delivery or to make sure no invoice is included in the package.
(Please note that for items shipped out of the UK, by law we have to attach a customs form to the parcel which will show the value of the contents.)

I always include a complimentary postcard in the parcel as a thank you, a personalised message can be written on this for your recipient upon request - just contact me and I will try my best to help.

Wholesale availability

Please contact us if you are interested in wholesale.

Shipping Costs

To ship our large cushions and pads outside the UK is expensive because the couriers charge by volumetric weight, not actual weight, which is very frustrating! We try to keeps costs as low as possible whilst still covering the value of the contents (for insurance purposes in case of loss).
Where possible, we offer our cushions as 'covers only' so you have the choice of what to order, and will link to that option within the listings. It is often cheaper to source your own pad in your country than pay for the extra postage and we indicate the size pad you would need in the listing also. Thanks for your understanding.
