A Grown Woman Playing With Mud

So in between teaching, painting, freelance design, mothering, wife-ing (?), and everything else, I've gotten addicted to clay. I love working with form, texture and color in 3D. I focus on these elements in my paintings, and there's something supremely satisfying about taking something so simple and making something so beautiful.

The thing about making cool stuff, is people always want to buy it from you! So the manifestation of Idle Hands Pottery began. I'm having tons of fun making all sorts of interesting things, and hope you enjoy them too. I also do shows in the Chicago area, and will try to remember to post info about that on Etsy as well as Instagram.

I love feedback, so let me know what you think, and if you'd like to ask about a custom order, I can most likely accommodate you.

I've been an artist wearing many hats my entire life, and recently my passion has been ceramics. I love working with clay in all its forms, and I see great potential in such a simple material.

Frequently asked questions
Custom and personalized orders

I will do custom orders that fit my design aesthetic and are objects that I normally create. This is also pending my workload, and will most likely take 4-6 weeks. If I do take on your custom order, I will send you a custom listing through Etsy. I send pics before shipping to ensure you are happy with the product before sending it out. If you have an inquiry, please send me a message through Etsy 😊.

Care instructions

I use durable stoneware clay for my pieces, that can be microwaved and put in the dishwasher. I always recommend hand washing, but I am also a busy mom who will put my mugs in the dishwasher if I don’t have time. The only pieces that cannot be microwaved or put in the dishwasher are pieces with gold or silver, because that is real metal. I always specify that in the listing itself.

What if I break my piece?

Hey-accidents happen! If you break an item purchased from my shop, send me a message to see if I can make you a new one that looks the same. I change inventory often so I may not have it listed, but I will try to make you a new one if I can. I can never guarantee that it will be an exact copy because this is handmade pottery. There will be another charge for the new piece. The exception is if it arrives broken-then I will replace it for free. You must contact me within 3 days of receiving the broken item to get a free replacement, and I will need pictures for the insurance claim with USPS.
