Welcome to Ildanach After Dark! The artisans at the Studios are glad you've stopped by.

Here, you will find a quest for Awen, the Creative Soul. As each of us strives to give the recycled materials a voice in the artwork they become, we create using time-honored and contemporary methods of construction. Beyond handmade, we handcraft each artwork and use only those materials best suited to our work – thumbing our noses at “Industry Standards” and over-polished, sterile jewelry.

Whether it’s using the 1600-year-old rediscovered Pressblech technique or the Reticulated Fusion handcrafting technique developed at Ildanach, we hope you’ll enjoy the artworks created at the Studios. Our overall philosophy of Design is to accentuate, rather than cover, the wondrous work of art that is the human body. This attention to detail and the contextual presence of our works means that not only do the materials have a voice and the artist our exploration but you, the patron and wearer, your expression.

Established in 1996 by husband and wife Lēd Artists, Sheron & Curtis, Ildanach Studios has established a reputation for high quality, affordable metalworks. In 2006, we were joined by Annie as a part of our internship program, who left to gain her Master of Fine Arts degree and rejoined us as a Bench Artist in 2008. In 2010, we were joined by Wendy as a Production Artist for our main line. You will find each Artist’s one-of-a-kind artworks in the Black Label Reserved sections and our group efforts and explorations in the Personal Expressions sections.

As you've probably seen, we're sticklers for recycled, reclaimed and repurposed. You'll also find us qualified and/or certified as an Eco Footprint, Handmade, Fair Trade and Made in the USA collection of artists. If you enjoy more stories and philosophy about what we do, please feel free to visit our web site: or visit us on Facebook:

As you read through our Policies, please know that each wordy policy boils down to quality and satisfaction. Please let us know how we can help you.

Again, thanks for your interest in the works of the Artists at Ildanach!

Question: Are your earring findings hypoallergenic?
Answer: Yes. We use hypoallergenic surgical steel unless otherwise noted.

Question: Are the patinas on your artworks natural?
Answer: Yes. They are a fleeting, sometimes ephemeral and sometimes controllable result of the fast, high-heat open flame handcrafting process used at the Studios. Like other methods of patina, the natural colors on our artworks can be affected by such things as skin acids, metal cleaners and polishes. The patinas and the artwork itself will age and evolve over time.

Question: What’s the best way to polish and/or clean my jewelry?
Answer: For bracelets, showering in them keeps them clean and helps protect the patina. A Sunshine Polishing cloth is gentle for metals and usually won’t discolor soft stones, then buff with a soft cloth after polishing – though for best results, we recommend a separate cloth for gold, silver and copper. An earth-friendly way is to clean your jewelry (except for soft stones) with table ketchup – a few seconds in the ketchup is all that’s necessary, usually not more than a minute. Then rinse with tap or filtered water and buff with a clean, soft cloth. Leaving jewelry in the ketchup longer than 60 seconds WILL EAT AWAY ANY NATURAL PATINAS. KETCHUP WILL ALSO DISCOLOR SOFT STONES SUCH AS, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, TURQUOISE, OPAL AND PEARLS.

Disclaimer: Ildanach After Dark, Ildanach Studios and the associated artists can not be held responsible for discoloration, removal of patinas or any other possible damage done to jewelry from any method of cleaning and/or polishing. Consumer assumes all responsibility for chosen methods of cleaning and/or polishing of their jewelry.

Question: Can I wear my Ildanach Jewelry 24/7?
Answer: Yes, we design our jewelry to be worn during an active lifestyle. So go ahead and DANCE! We wear ours while mountain climbing, snowshoeing and martial arts.

Question: I love a specific design but it’s not in my size, can you make it my size?
Answer: Yes, but with some additional information needed. If the artwork you want to purchase is a one-of-a-kind, it may not be able to be altered for size – contact us and we’ll discuss options. If the artwork is a design on jewelry in which we carry multiple sizes, we will be able to make one in your size once we receive the proper measurements. We can also possibly try the custom order route.

Question: Does copper coming into contact with my skin turn it green?
Answer: Yes. And that’s a good thing! Our jewelry is designed to take advantage of the natural therapeutic properties of copper. Obviously, a bracelet is going to have more contact with the skin than a necklace, and a barrette won’t usually come into contact at all. This green washes off with soap and water if you’re not looking for the therapy.

Question: Why does my skin turn green?
Answer: The green is evidence of copper salts, called chelates, being formed by your natural skin acids and oils combining with copper from your bracelet. It may be interesting to note that many people who wear a copper bracelet often stop turning green once their body has enough copper. And some customers have reported they actually turn dark green or blackish – which seems to be because their body needs the copper even more.

Question: What happens when my skin turns green?
Answer: The healthy copper salts are absorbed through your skin into your bloodstream. This unchanged copper salt is then circulated through your entire body to help where your body needs it.

Question: You mention therapeutic properties. What are they?
Answer: While not a guarantee, Copper through the skin has been a successful folk remedy for thousands of years. Copper in digestive form is changed by stomach acids and is therefore less effective than through the skin. An unearthed 3000 year old papyrus scroll in Egypt even provides a prescription of powdered copper on the skin for “fire in the joints”. Recent studies have shown unchanged copper salts through the skin do several beneficial things. Copper increases blood circulation. Increased blood circulation can be the healthy basis for many important operations of the body. As increased circulation can help pull fluid build-up away from affected sore joints, it is thought this is possibly why copper through the skin has been a folk remedy for arthritis and rheumatism for so long. Copper also strengthens the myelin sheath covers which insulate nerve bundles from the rest of the body. Copper is an important part of collagen support for healthy skin. And over-all, Copper is considered an essential micro-nutrient.

Question: Is the copper in your jewelry pure?
Answer: Yes. Even though we use as much recycled copper as we can, we only use sources that are pure, or refine the copper to a pure state before use. Don’t be fooled by claims of “virgin copper” and the science behind magnet therapy isn’t well supported.

Question: What if I don’t want to turn green or don’t want the copper therapy?
Answer: We strive to create recycled copper jewelry as art. If you’re not interested in the therapeutic aspects of copper, just coat the side of your jewelry which comes into contact with the skin with a coat of clear fingernail polish.

Question: I have a metal allergy. Can I wear copper?
Answer: You should always consult your physician with health concerns first. Our skin is the largest organ of our body, so it’s important to pay attention to what you’re putting on it. One study shows that of those people with skin allergies associated with metal, most are allergic to nickel. Unfortunately, when alloying metals, nickel is often used. So look into wearing jewelry made from pure metal or hypoallergenic surgical steel. Even gold that is less than 24carat often has nickel in it and metals processed outside the USA tend to be less pure than those made in the USA. Allergies to metals other than nickel do exist.
