Handmade photography - cameras and prints

Lisbon, Portugal

Announcement    We are Imagerie - Casa de Imagens, a photography workshop based in Lisbon, Portugal.
Since the creation of Imagerie, in Lisbon in 2008, that we – Magda Fernandes and José Domingos, the founders of this project, desired that this would be a space for learning and sharing knowledge and love for photography, especially for its most unknown forms. We’ve quickly grown to be an exhibition venue – open to all photographers who wanted to show their work outside the formal art gallery circuit, – as well as a place for gatherings, debates and conferences with other photographers, artists and teachers who came and enriched our experience.

As we were growing fast, it was only natural that we would expand our activity outside our doors, establishing an informal educational service in partnership with various institutions, such as municipalities, cultural centres, etc. We also got involved in volunteering, with the goal to expand the learning opportunities outside the usual places, reaching people who don’t usually have easy access to the kind of activities we provide.

We are always searching for new ways to promote alternative photography through a larger scale interaction with the public. In 2012, we created a series of projects, such as “Cans In The City”, among others, some of them still in a development phase.

Although the future can be uncertain, we are sure that we want ours to continue to be a space where one can live, think and talk about photography, in an open, unpretentious, and unprejudiced way, so that we can be a vehicle for the promotion of a heterogeneous, but faithful public for photography.
