Welcome to Imari Design: Unique Bags, Purses and Accessories Handmade from Vintage Japanese Kimono and Contemporary Fabrics.

I have always had a strong interest in Japanese culture, particularly kimono. I aim to showcase these amazing fabrics in my work.

I believe every piece of vintage kimono fabric has its own story to tell.

By up-cycling old, unwanted kimono and kimono obi (sash) fabrics to create bags and accessories I hope to give them a modern twist and more practical use for everyday life. I want the kimono fabrics to continue their journeys in a new setting and be appreciated for their beauty once again.

My obi bags are unique as I don't usually tend to work from patterns. I like to design the shape around the fabric. I work on my own so each bag/purse is made personally at my home.

Additional policies and FAQs
The fabrics I use in my designs are mostly pre-loved vintage kimono fabrics hand-picked by me from Japan. Please understand therefore that they may have a slight 'vintage' or musty smell. They may also have small stitch holes, age spots or loose threads. This is to be expected with old fabrics that may have been in storage for many years.
I believe this adds to the authenticity of the pieces.

These are usually very minor and almost unnoticible points. However, if there is any very prominent defect on a particular item then I will always mention it in the listing.

Thank you for your understanding.
