ABOUT THE ARTWORK
The artwork is created by designer Elizabeth E. Schuch, and we work with local artisans in the US and the UK to produce our gifts. "GIVE ME MY ROBE, PUT ON MY CROWN; I HAVE
IMMORTAL LONGINGS IN ME."
- SHAKESPEARE, ANTONY AND CLEOPATRA
Starting with just ten original illustrations, the Shakespeare Series began in 2006 out of Elizabeth's bedroom, first launching at Shakespeare's Globe Shop. Since then, the illustrations have been working their way around the globe.
As a business run by artists, creative collaboration with skilled artisans, craft workers, and theatre designers is the cornerstone of what we produce, resulting in quality gifts made with attention to detail. Making sure that the papers we use are of the best texture, that the prints look vibrant and perfect, and that our fabrics are lovely to touch: these are things we're passionate about providing.
For our customers, we love making art that is affordable and very accessible, and inspired by the rich characters and ideas of the dramatic world. New challenges and projects are always welcome, and we love to tackle all sorts of subjects. As a vendor company, we offer retail venues wide flexibility in choice of design, bespoke illustration and small minimum orders that suit large and small shops.
About the Artwork
The Immortal Longings illustrations are all created by our award-winning designer, Elizabeth. The Classic Shakespeare and Opera drawings are produced in ink and watercolour. The original Shakespeare Series art was inspired by the posters of Alphonse Mucha. In all of the illustrations, Elizabeth uses her scenic design background to research costumes, patterns and decorative details appropriate for each play. Much of the detailed, fantastical flourishes that appear throughout the collections stem from her continual fascination with blending architecture with nature and organic linework.
For the Tudor Series, and newer work, Elizabeth has used her expressive, cross-hatch pen and ink style to bring a new life to contemporary portraits of the age. Digital graphics bring the colour to some of Shakespeare's words in our Quotes Collections.
