First of all, these took 2 weeks to get to me. Also, these are literally just cut up slices of nylon tights… which is actually a good idea, but I feel really jipped and wish i just cut up my own old tights. and they are string-thin, not thick like in the photo.

Making Dream Catchers and Catching Dreams

What is a Dream Catcher: According to Native American History, the legend of the Dream Catcher states "Dream catchers are one of the most fascinating traditions of Native Americans. The traditional dream catcher was intended to protect the sleeping individual from negative dreams, while letting positive dreams through. The positive dreams would slip through the hole in the center of the dream catcher, and glide down the feathers to the sleeping person below. The negative dreams would get caught up in the web, and expire when the first rays of the sun struck them."

How it works: Using a hoop and decorating it with findings of everyday life will give the dream catcher a charge of energy that will create the power to eliminate your bad dreams and allow your good dreams to flow through and literally catch all of your hopes and dreams and desires.

My story: I began weaving dream catchers when I was 18 and moved to New York from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania alone. Creating things has always been my salvation. The dream catcher is particularly special to me because it lets me weave together and solidify what I want in life through a meditative process during creation.

Spreading the love: Over the last five years since my first dream catcher, I have been hosting dream catcher workshops at festivals and giving people the gift of learning how to create and weave their own dream catchers.

MyPlan: To reach as many different people as I can to spread the essence of the dreamcatcher by traveling from New York back to my grass roots in Philadelphia. I plan to obtain a workshop on wheels. A fully stocked van that contains all the necessary elements to complete a dreamcatcher that will be enough for 200+ people. Also, I need a documentarian to take photos of the dream catchers and video tape the workshops.
