**REGARDING PAINTS & FINISHES**

RATTLES & TEETHERS:

I offer two different finishes for teethers; organic coconut oil and all natural beeswax and olive oil. Each finish is food-grade and chemical free and safe for teething. Here is the breakdown on the benefits of each:

Beeswax & Olive Oil: A handmade wood creme I make myself with clean US sourced beeswax and extra virgin olive oil. Beeswax is known to offer anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and anti-viral benefits. We do not call our beeswax "organic" because bees can travel 3-4 miles from their hives to collect nectar and there is no way to verify if each and every flower pollinated is organically grown.

Organic Coconut Oil: 100% certified organic un-refined coconut oil. Coconut oil is an anti-fungal agent, inherently anti-bacterial, and it can also help to prevent tooth decay while maintaining healthy gums. For centuries people in tropical climates have used coconut oil as a cleaning agent for their teeth.

TOYS:

The paints I use are AP certified 100% non-toxic acrylic paints and watercolors. Some painted toys are finished with our homemade beeswax wood creme and others are finished with 100% genuine non-toxic Shellac, derived from Lac Beetles -- the gold standard for a safe, fume free non-toxic durable finish.

Quality Toys for Creative Kids

Little Raven Toys began as IndieBambino in 2007, the year my first child was born. I started with wet-bags and cloth diapering accessories, and soon moved in to Waldorf toys -- my real passion. I opened my Etsy shop here in 2010, the year our daughter was born. I create, design and finish every single piece that leaves my shop. Building toys for families all over the world is a labor of love. I still get a thrill when I think about a toy I've made making it's way in to the hands of a child somewhere far away -- it makes me feel connected to your family and to caregivers everywhere. It really does take a village to raise a child, and I'm thrilled to be a small part of that journey.

What are Waldorf Toys? The principles of Waldorf education are fairly simple -- it essentially advocates early learning through imaginative play and social interaction. When a child is given the freedom to create their own stories and scenarios with toys that are open ended and simple, magnificent things begin to happen. Research shows that pretend play -- with toys that don't require batteries or do all the playing for you, requires children to develop complex social and emotional skills that blossom in to better language skills, enhanced empathy and advanced problem solving skills among other things. Simple toys nurture complex brains -- and, they are FUN!

Why ravens? Our shop logo is inspired by the inquisitive and mischievous nature of some of the most common birds. Ravens are incredibly intelligent, playful, and avid learners, just like human children. The raven is considered by many cultures to represent transformation — much like the magical journey of childhood.

I started making toys in 2007, the year my son was born. I create, design, photograph, and list every item in the shop. You might say I'm a one woman crafting machine.

My husband Phillip helps me occasionally with cutting, drilling and heavy lifting. He's also a wonderful inspiration for new toys, as he really is a kid at heart.
