About

A lifelong love of jewelry!

Hi there!

My intro to jewelry making was somewhat drawn out: I've always been a creative person, dabbling in this and that [sewing, scrapbooking/cardmaking, and baking were my top choices], sort of jumping in with two feet as soon as I got "the itch".
This was actually the only creative venture I've ever really yearned to do, but held off on for one reason or another, and the only one I *now* do 7 days a week, and still enjoy immensely!

Here's my story:

As a child I created paper beads, loved making cereal necklaces on licorice strings at birthdays, and would twist grass into rings. I had my ears pierced at the age of 6, and received my very first ring at the age of 10. I loved jewelry, dangle earrings in particular! The very best surprise was a new pair of earrings in my stocking at Christmas.

I've always been drawn to jewelry makers in public markets- their creations from raw wire and stones stirred up my creative juices and left me wanting to move my fingers.

When I was 11 I went to a summer camp, and there was a young woman there making spiral jewelry out of wire; I simply adored her. I thought she was incredibly talented, and would watch from afar, keenly taking in her techniques hoping to mimic them when I returned home. Of course, this didn't happen yet, but this was my first strike of love for Sterling Silver wire jewelry!

Fast forward about ten years later: I was newly married, and I'd delivered my first child. I was fresh from University [with the bills to go along with it!], and trying to better myself. I was attempting a go at entrepreneurialship, making greeting and Christmas cards, selling them at a local Christmas fair. It was at this fair, which was an unfortunate dud, that I was stationed next to a jewelry designer. She was confident, outgoing, and made beautiful jewelry. As we chatted in the long lulls between customers that weekend, she would whip up bracelets, earrings, necklaces.. and once more, I yearned to try.

For my first Mother's Day that spring I was surprised with a selection of tools: wire cutters, pliers, etc.

It was actually about a year after that, that I really got to use them- I was pregnant with my second child...
My sister came into town to visit, and while we were out exploring our new town, she gave me a beautiful necklace for my birthday. There was something about this necklace- it was handmade in a small village in Africa, of glass beads and brass wire- it was bold, chunky, totally unlike something I'd normally wear, but I loved it. It made me feel transformed! I'd put it on and feel confident, sexy, powerful.. yet, a bit "off": I had no earrings to go with it!
So, the search began. I found a little bead shop, purchased some coordinating beads, and crafted some matching earrings!

Suddenly, I was head-over-heels. I'd begun, and couldn't stop!
I practiced my techniques, experiemented with new ones, and by the time my second child, my son, was born, I was ready to open up shop! I spent a few months researching various aspects of Etsy selling, and once I felt confident, officially clicked the "sell" button.

Indulgent Designs was officially opened in June 2010.

Since then I've dabbled in new ideas and techniques, and working your way backwards in my sold items [ http://www.etsy.com/shop/IndulgentDesigns/sold?ref=shopinfo_sales_leftnav ] you'll see I started with a lot of fun custom orders. Alchemy, an old Etsy service, was a great beginning to my business!

Things really took off for me in the fall of 2011 when I started offering my infinity knot rings. I quickly started offering more designs, and even with a month long break at the end of 2011/beginning of 2012 to deliver my third child, I came back bigger than before, and eager to get back to work!

In October of 2012 I took a big step forward, and officiated this business that I developed and nutured: it is still 100% owned by me, and I'm the only worker- it's just now officially named Indulgent Designs Incorporated.

I'm currently working on brand new styles and designs! I've got about 10 new styles ready and waiting to be listed, and *so* many to come! I am also loving the 14K Solid Gold that's quickly taking more inventory in my shop- I've got both White and Rose Gold available upon request, so please write if you see a design you'd like that's only offered in Yellow Gold!

I'm always happy to chat- so feel free to drop me a line! :)

::::::::::::::::::::::HOLIDAY SHIPPING:

The following is the required MAIL BY date for countries worldwide from Canada... please keep in mind customs *can* cause a delay, and this is not a guaranteed arrival date.
ALSO, each ring is made to order and *doesn't* ship out the day it's purchased- please see further information on this below, or thoroughly read each item's listing!

^^^AGAIN, the rings are not mailed the same day they're purchased!^^^

USA: mailed by Dec 12th
Canada: Mailed by Dec 17
Europe: mailed by Dec 8
Asia: mailed by Dec 8
Australia: mailed by Dec 8
New Zealand: mailed by Dec 8

All items are sent via lettermail/light packet/airmail, please see Canada Post's full outline here: http://www.canadapost.ca/cpo/mc/personal/campaigns/holiday/default.jsf

For the following topics see below:
-GIFT WRAPPING [this is complimentary with each purchase and is as shown in the listing]
-EXPRESS SHIPPING
-CUSTOMS DECLARATION [pricing, "mark as gift"]
-DUTY FEES/CHARGES/TAXES, etc.
-GIFT RECIPIENT--> SHIPPING TO

Gift wrapping: this is complimentary, all jewelry will come as shown in the photos of the item listing [for listings without photos of the packaging, please refer to this listing: This sweet little tin is now lined in a pretty shimmery champagne colored tissue, not the bright pink]. I am happy to include a gift note for you, with your custom message included- please specify what you'd like written in "notes to IndulgentDesigns". [PLEASE NOTE: items will be shipped to the address specified in PayPal- be sure the recipients address is correctly entered there!]

Express shipping: I send via airmail for all packages, to speed up the process. I will happily send via Express Post [2-3 business days] if requested, though please keep in mind that this is a fairly significant increase in postage [around $14 in Canada, $28 to the US, and $60 Internationally], and I will ship upon invoice payment. Please let me know via "notes to IndulgentDesigns" [while purchasing] if you'd like this, or send me a conversation. I'll issue an invoice for the appropriate amount immediately so we can get the package mailed as soon as possible.

Customs declaration: Please also keep in mind that packages will arrive with proper customs declarations: while I'm happy to include a gift note, I cannot keep the cost of the item off of the package entirely, nor can I inflate or decrease the value. I will also be marking all items as merchandise- I cannot label my packages as a gift. Changing the value of the items or mis-marking as another item or as a gift is against the law, and I appreciate you understanding my firm stance on this. My children and husband would not appreciate me being jailed to potentially save you a few dollars in duty!

Duty fees/charges/taxes: On this note, please also remember that all duty, taxes, fees, etc. imposed by your country upon receipt of your package is your responsibility. I am not responsible for this and will not pay for them- please do your research ahead of time and calculate the cost of these into your total purchase price!
A handy site on which to do some calculations is here: http://www.dutycalculator.com/new-import-duty-and-tax-calculation/
I do not endorse this site or declare that it is 100% accurate, but I've been told frequently that it's been helpful to those that have used it.
European customers in particular need to take note of this, it seems your government is cracking down on imported items and is more regularly charging taxes.

Shipping to friend/family [gift recipient]: All packages will be shipped to the address listed on the ••PayPal•• receipt. This address will not be modified, both for your protection and mine. If this is a gift, please ensure you add the gift recipient's address to your PayPal screen upon checkout, and see their address as the "ship to" before clicking submit and continuing to finish the transaction on Etsy. If you have an error with this, please contact me immediately and I will re-fund the payment and send you a new invoice to re-complete the transaction with appropriate address.

Is this a gift? I'm happy to include a personalized gift note: just include in "notes to Indulgent Designs" exactly what you'd like the note to read and I will put your message on a note card, free of charge. No invoice will be included in the package

I accept Mastercard, Visa, American Express [through PayPal- you do NOT need an account to pay via credit card!], and PayPal funds.
If you have a PayPal account, you may also select to pay with your bank balance [this will result in sending an "e-check", which gives a delay for the money to clear. I will ship once the jewelry is created, and the money has been transferred ]

**IF YOU RESIDE IN Saskatchewan or Manitoba, you are required to self submit your provincial taxes for the purchase being made**
Shipping
International shipping--> Yes, I'm happy to! Please be sure to take a moment to verify your country's customs policies [import limits, customs fees, etc]; customs fees and taxes are the responsibility of the customer.
This website ( http://www.dutycalculator.com/new-import-duty-and-tax-calculation/ ) may be helpful in calculating what additional fees, if any, you may incur when purchasing jewelry from my store, shipped from Canada.

Please ensure your PayPal address is up to date! ••This is the address I will ship to.•• If you enter the wrong address, and contact me before shipment, I will refund your payment and invoice you to get the correct address. Anything sent to the original address before correction will need to be returned before I re-ship [current residents of old address will need to refuse package or return to sender. ], and re-shipment costs will need to be paid via PayPal invoice. Please ensure your address is correct, I cannot do anything if your package has been delivered to an address that you've erroneously selected.

Most of my items are made-to-order, in which case they will be shipped after creation [this timeframe will be specified in the item listing]. If it's a ready-made item, it will ship within three business days.
You will receive an e-mail notification from PayPal once I've mailed your item[s]; this e-mail will be sent to the e-mail address input during checkout [if you have a different PayPal account than your Etsy e-mail, please check the PayPal linked email for the notification].

As I am an international shipper, please take a moment to remember that all duties, miscellaneous charges, taxes, etc. imposed by your country are your responsibility; These are not in my control and I have no way of knowing when or if they will be imposed or how much they might be. Everything I ship is marked as merchandise and valued as the price paid for.
Again, take a look at this site ( http://www.dutycalculator.com/new-import-duty-and-tax-calculation/ ) to do a calculation of which, if any, fees you may run into. I cannot guarantee this site is 100% correct, but it's been indicated to be reliable by others I've talked with!

Each ring is made to order. Your ring[s] will be made in the timeline promised in the listing you purchase [this is typically one week from purchase. It *can* be earlier, and I try for sooner in the busy Christmas season, but please allow up to a week].
->Once the ring is complete, it will be mailed from my home in Canada. Shipping within Canada typically takes just over a week, shipping to the USA typically takes 4-10 *business days*, and international overseas mail typically takes around 7-12 business days. These business days do not include Sat/Sun. Holiday shipping also commonly suffers from delays due to the tremendous overload on the Postal Systems during this time of year.

PLEASE NOTE: these above guidelines do not account for a possible delay in customs, weather delays/obstructions within the postal systems, natural disasters, etc., NOR does it reflect the typical delays that the holidays create within postal systems around the world. [UK and Australian customs are the slowest in my experience, please allow a longer wait]
Your package could be delayed without notice- once in customs in particular, this is completely in the government's hands! Customs waits can be anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks.
Please *PLEASE* make note of this, and make your decision to purchase a gift for an important holiday accordingly. ::::::::::::::::::
Refunds and Exchanges
I handcraft each item with a great amount of care to ensure high quality and take time to package each shipment well to keep it safe during travel. If for some reason the item you've purchased is faulty, please let me know as soon as you've received it and I will fix the problem!
Please note that all stones [unless otherwise indicated] are natural, so flaws regarding the stones should be regarded as proof of their uniqueness.

I am willing to consider returns/exchanges within 5 days of receipt, with the item unworn and in its original condition, with original packaging. Return shipping and handling charges are the responsibility of the purchaser [original shipping charges will not be refunded]. Returned or exchanged items must be received by me, in their original condition, before a refund/exchange will occur; please take care to package your item[s] carefully, to ensure they make it through the postal system safely. Damages/broken items [due to poor packaging on a customer's behalf] will not be refunded. Please also make sure to label any returned or exchanged items as such on the customs invoice or else any customs fees due upon receipt to me will be owed before a refund/exchange is completed.
Custom made orders are exempt from this return policy; they will be considered for returns/exchanges on a case by case basis. Gold rings returned for a refund or exchange must be sent with tracking and insurance, and will be assessed a $20 fee.

For ring re-sizing: I will happily exchange your Silver ring for the correct size, provided you contact me within 5 days of receipt and start the process then! It must be mailed within a few days of contact. I require that you get professionally sized before I make your new ring, to ensure it will fit properly.
I will create your new ring and have it ready and waiting to send out [the new ring will be shipped as soon as I receive the original ring]. You are responsible for shipping costs both ways, but the exchange service will be complimentary!
--> If you'd like a ring re-sized after this period of time, or after the ring has been worn [versus just trying it on] I will charge $10 for the service and the return shipping appropriate for your location.
Gold rings: the exact same policies/procedures apply, but there is a $20 fee for re-sizing [even if within five days of receiving the ring] and/or returns. Gold rings must be sent back with tracking and insurance. Returned Gold items will be refunded for original purchase price minus $20 fee and original shipping costs.

Any item returned with damage [signs of wear for example] will be treated on a case by case basis, most likely resulting in a return minus the usual re-sizing fee [$10 for Silver rings, $20 for Gold rings]; this is subject to change dependent on situation.

I am unfortunately not in control of the postal system, especially not regarding the speed with which a package is delivered. Refunds will not be given for items arriving slower than hoped for. Please remember that I am shipping from Canada, and the large majority of my jewelry is shipped internationally. A refund will only be given upon an item's return to me.

While rare, customs can delay packages beyond the expected arrival dates: if slowed in customs, items to the US can take up to a month to arrive, and internationally can take up to 8 weeks to arrive. If they have not arrived by this date, one would assume the package had been lost or stolen [customs would send a notification if I'd mistakenly sent an unallowable object, and the package had been seized], and I will re-make and re-ship the items after I've verified your address and a theft report has been opened in both countries postal systems.
Additional policies and FAQs
Gift wrapping for any item is complimentary! All items purchased will come in their own tissue lined round tin with exception of earrings/nose rings or the sets of stacking rings; if you'd like each of these items packed separately, please be sure to contact me regarding this quickly [if not in 'notes to seller', send a convo- my packages may ship within a couple of hours of payment!]; additional tins are available for an additional price, and may require higher shipping costs.
Ring sets, or rings packaged in quantities of more than one [two knot rings, for example] will be packaged in their own tins. Rings of same design but different sizes will be marked with their sizes [with a removable label]. Stacking rings or the like will be packaged in the same tin, even if multiple sizes are requested from the same listing.

If you'd like a note included [if it's a gift], please contact me via "notes to seller" while purchasing or via conversation; I'm happy to do so, without any additional charge!
All pink tissue shown in the gift tins in the listings is now being sent as a pretty and neutral shimmery champagne color.

Stones/gemstones used in my designs are natural and genuine [unless otherwise indicated]. Because of this there may be inclusions, uneven coloring/texture etc- this is all part of the beauty of the piece and not to be considered a flaw!

Fellow Etsians: I welcome an exchange of goods. Please don't hesitate to convo me if you'd like to make a swap!

--Custom Orders--
Are you ordering something to be custom made for you? I require a minimum 50% deposit upfront on all larger custom orders to be paid before crafting your item; the item can be paid for in full up front if desired, and this is required for orders under $60. All deposits on custom orders are non-refundable and pay for the time invested in making the piece requested as well as materials consumed in the process.
