A beautiful item. It's only when you actually hold it than you can truly appreciate the craftmanship involved. The fact that the phrase is quite long, and laid out as a spiral encourages one to pause, and read it carefully - therefore causing one to stop working, a take a small break. It is also a very tactile experience since the stone has a satisfying heft/bulk to it, and sits nicely in my hand. The stone has pride of place on my desk. I intend to buy another as soon as I get some spare cash. Thank you Lito :)

About

writing as an object

Trained as a historian and having lived in libraries and archives for many years I have become fascinated with written words: their many and changing meanings and the material technologies that make them possible.

Papers, pens, ink, nibs, writing cases, stationery, paper clips and pencils - all objects that surround the act of writing - have their stories; assembled they bring their stories together - they "fall into place" to tell a visual wordless story about the world of words.

In Inklinks I draw from my extensive collection of antique stationery and writing supplies to create objects that like to live between books in a home library or writing desk. Some of my canvases are stones I collect in my travels, others are wood from antique writing slopes. Stones are nuggets of compressed time as are words and texts: the mixed media objects I create are fusions of the constant and the ephemeral.

The collection of mixed media objects, assemblages and commissions as well as more information about my work can be found in my website
