Prints, Stickers and Custom Art

About Us
Hi there! I’m Sarah. I run my small business called Inky Origins inside my apartment in Woodmere, Ohio. I run my shop on my own with the occasional help from my mother, aka superwoman, who lends a helpful hand for all of my sewing needs. I also gather moral support from my husband and our two cats, Jack and Bean

The (Inky) Origins
I was inspired to open my shop after taking a screen printing class with my husband in 2013. After an unfulfilling four years of art school, I happened to find a printmaking studio called Zygote Press, who offered screen printing classes to the public. I had dabbled in various types of printmaking in art school but I wanted to learn more. My husband and I signed up for the class taught by April Bleakney, she runs her own screenprinting business (check out her etsy store APE MADE). She taught us all about the basics and walked us through each step. Once the classes ended, I immediately bought a screen, some ink, and printed an illustration of my friend and her two cats onto a pillow. That was the moment I fell in love with screenprinting and the beginning of my inky origins. I opened Inky Origins because I want to share my love for screen printing, printmaking, and illustration with other people.

The IN(K)spiration
I draw my inspiration from people, humor, nature, and cultures. My hope is that my prints, stickers, art prints, and other products will inspire and enrich people's lives.

The Work and The Process
Everything in my shop is drawn by me. Whenever I am inspired I will grab my ipad and sketch out ideas.

For my stickers, I clean up a sketch, add color and order the design to be printed.

For my linocuts, I print out and transfer my drawing onto a linoleum block and start carving. Once I'm finished carving, I roll ink evenly over the linoleum and print onto my choice of paper. Every print pulled is one of a kind.

For my screen prints, once I have finished cleaning up a design, I will print out my image in layers onto transparencies to prepare them for the screen printing process. Next, I expose my screens and mix my inks. Once my screens are dry and my inks are mixed, I am ready to print. Each print is pulled by hand.

For my handmade magnets, the designs are sculpted in clay and then cast in resin. Each design is hand painted with care.

The Workplace
I would describe my workspace as multifunctional. Every room in my apartment is a living space but it also translates into my work space. For example, my living room is where I do most of my drawing, the kitchen table is where I mix my inks and print my linocuts, I use my bathtub to wash out my screens, and my closet is a dark room for exposing my screens. Organization is my friend!

For my Customers
You are important to me. I hope I can meet your needs while continuing to give you quality products. Even though I am trying to run a business I believe in treating my customers as equals and if there is anything that you think I could improve please do not hesitate to contact me. I would love to hear from you!
