WHAT IS MOHAIR: Mohair is a silk-like fabric or yarn made from the hair of the Angora goat, and one of the oldest textile fibers in use. Both durable and resilient, mohair is notable for its high luster and sheen, which has helped gain it the nickname the "Diamond Fiber", and is often used in fiber blends to add these qualities to a textile. Mohair takes dye exceptionally well. Mohair is warm in winter as it has excellent insulating properties, while remaining cool in summer due to its moisture wicking properties. It is durable, naturally elastic, flame and crease resistant. It is considered to be a luxury fiber, like cashmere, angora and silk, and is usually more expensive than most wool that comes from sheep. Mohair is composed mostly of keratin, a protein found in the hair, wool, horns and skin of all mammals. Mohair fiber is approximately 25–45 microns in diameter. It increases in diameter with the age of the goat, growing along with the animal. Fine hair from younger animals is used for finer applications such as clothing, and the thicker hair from older animals is more often used for heavy fabrics intended for outerwear.

The Angora goat is thought to originate from the mountains of Tibet, reaching Turkey in the 16th century. However, fabric made of mohair was known in England as early as the 8th century. Shearing of the Angora goat is done twice a year, in the spring and in the fall. One goat will produce 11 to 17 pounds (5–8 kg) of mohair a year. Shearing is done on a cleanly swept floor and extra care is taken to keep the hair clean and free of debris. The hair is then processed to remove natural grease, dirt and vegetable matter. Mohair grows in uniform locks. Angora is a single-coat breed, and unlike pygora or cashmere, there is no need to dehair a mohair fleece to separate the coarse hair from the down hair.

FEEDBACK: Feedback is important to us....especially POSITIVE comments. If you have any issues with our services or products please contact us directly.

Thank you.

Payment
We're happy to accept any major credit/debit card using Etsy's Direct Checkout as well as PayPal.

Shipping
Minimum shipping charges apply. Please check each listing for details. If you are an U.S. based customer, our 1/6 yard cuts and some of our other teddy bear making items are small and light enough to be shipped to you in a (LARGE) envelope by the USPS using First Class Mail. The maximum weight for this service is 13 ounces. If you are in an apartment building or have had trouble with First Class Mail deliveries, please email us. For larger and heavier items we use UPS or USPS Priority Mail Service.

For Canadian and Overseas orders we use the USPS exclusively. If your order is light enough (less than 4 pounds) we will use First Class International.

For Canadian and International Customers: Every so often a package will get hung up by Customs in your home country, and delivery will be delayed. We have seen delays of 2, 3 and even 4 weeks. Fortunately, this happens relatively seldom. The good news is that in our 25+ years of shipping teddy bear supplies we cannot recall having lost a package entirely.

If an item is shipped to an Overseas/International destination, buyer is responsible for clearing the item through Customs, if needed, and any custom duties and/or local taxes incurred.
