I ordered 2 of these cane mats for styling and they are perfect. Very well made and reasonably priced compared to similar designs that are circulating. I bought the smaller size which are perfect for breakfast bowls however I will at some point order the larger size too. Sarah (the maker) has been so helpful with some queries I have had. A pleasure to deal with.

Welcome to IntheBlackShed

IntheBlackShed has been created to combine my own range of note cards and prints using my late father’s eclectic range of retro 1950’s-60’s black and white photography.

Having always wanted to do something with his pictures and albums I felt the timing was right to introduce them as note cards, notelets and cards in this way. John E. A. Bolton was born in Harrow and worked in London. The majority of his photographs were taken in the 1950's and up until his early death in 1968. He had his own darkroom in an outbuilding at the family home in Hyde Heath, Buckinghamshire. Belonging to local camera clubs and photographic societies he won several awards for his work in their annual exhibitions. My aim is to increase the range with other products, such as A5 and A4 prints with frames, canvas prints, cushions, calendars, post it notes, and further images as I continue to build it. For more information visit my website at: www.slb1publishing.com (for note cards, prints and calendars).

Added to these products I have also included a small book/family memoir. Entitled – 2am Rolling Home it includes an original handwritten diary and photographs recorded between 1946-1951 in post war Britain undertaken by my late mother during her time working as a young nurse in London and Scotland and her travels to Denmark and Sweden.

I also wanted to include my other craft skills of rush seating, willow and cane basket work. For more information visit my website blog at: www.slb1publishing.com/cane+rush.html (for updates on rush seating, willow and cane basket work).

I am based in a beautiful hamlet in Buckinghamshire, between High Wycombe and Aylesbury, working from my own office/studio. My working background has been in the Design/Print industry, in-house design studios and also as a freelancer. I was trained as a Graphic Designer, completing a BA Hons in Graphic Design at St Martins School of Art, London. The latter part of my working life has been in the Education sector, obtaining a PGCE in order to do so, as a BTEC Graphics Course Leader/sessional tutor and assessor,

Always keeping up to date and informed I continue with my love of the Arts by having an annual V&A membership (my most favourite place in London), attending exhibitions, evening lectures and talks. I also attend monthly lectures and study days with the founder group of NADFAS, the Chiltern Decorative and Fine Art Society of which I am also a member.
