CUSTOM KETUBAH AND FINE ART COMMISSIONS

I create custom wedding vow heirlooms and personalized artwork for patrons from every walk of life. If you want to give someone a truly special gift, I can help you come up with an idea based on your relationship that will incorporate images with special meaning to make it a deeply personal work of art. Feel free to look through my fine art website: http://sarahzar.com/ or my wedding vows portfolio at http://belovedketubah.com for inspiration.

Other things I make for commissions: Choose any picture or idea. No idea is too difficult. It can be a family photo, a painting of your family home or a landscape with special significance, your favorite creature, ancestor, a Harry Potter-style family tree, or something utterly bizarre! I love a good challenge. Even if you don't know exactly what you want, contact me and I can help you figure out something really unique, then create a special Etsy listing just for you:

RECENT PRESS

“Into The Forest is the beautiful, artistic and dream-like collaboration between two lovers living in Brooklyn. Sarah Zar is a dreamy artist full of whimsy, and her partner Naaran is an exquisite woodworker. She is inspired by literature and secrets and loves to share hidden things with strangers; he loves wood and builds custom furniture interiors found in cafés and restaurants around NYC. …. [their]… collective obsession with wood: reclaimed, salvaged, historic and elegant. Whether it’s oil paintings, frames, accent pieces, pocket watches or home furnishings (folks may recognize Sarah’s studio’s touch […]), wood is at the core and it makes for a world of enchantment…”

– Ronen, "Into The Forest Builds Williamsburg Fantasy", for A Gathering of The Tribes

“Together they built an alcove out of recycled wood [… ] Stepping up to their booth felt like being transported into a fairytale where the imagination can run wild: small paintings in handmade frames, necklaces made from chandelier crystals up-cycled with drawings, memory fingers for gifts, bird cages to catch ideas, and antique lockets with miniature paintings. We can’t wait for them to bring their world of wonder back to the market this Spring!”
– Michelle, from Makin’ It: With Whimsy & Wood, Brooklyn Flea review, Williamsburg, Brooklyn

Into The Forest is a gallery of art and objects that have emerged from my collaboration with the Naaran, who is a bespoke woodworker.

HOW THESE PAINTINGS BEGAN

I came home one day, and he had built a long, gorgeous table, using an eclectic array of reclaimed wood pieces. It covered an entire wall of our apartment. He told me that he made it so I could have a place to paint and encouraged me to set up my studio around it. I sat down and completed an entire painting in one day, and haven't stopped painting since. When I finished, he took me to his wood shop, and let me choose my favorite pieces of reclaimed wood from his collection. He used them to build me a beautiful custom frame for the painting. When I saw the final combination, it took my breath away. I finally felt, for the first time ever, that one of my paintings was truly complete.

Since then, our collaboration has continued and grown. I make my paintings and objects, and he puts the final touches on, by adding one of a kind pieces of wood to them. We do not source our materials from any industry that harms trees. All the wood is rescued from buildings, boardwalks, and bridges that are crumbling or being taken down here in Brooklyn, NY. Each piece has a story, and whenever possible, we know what it is, and will happily tell you the details that relate to your purchase.

JEWELRY

Most of the jewelry I make is created for a special, sometimes strange purpose. Some necklaces can be used to detect optimism, some are reminders or charms of various sorts, and others (like the FAIRY MILK NECKLACES) come with little mini spell-books with simple spells you can do with common household ingredients. The results are very pretty and colorful, so there is a visual climax at the end.
