I have always been attracted to the water and naturally have a little creativity in my blood. My great grandfather was in vaudeville and I used to be a television producer, who traveled the world producing stories for all the networks and big tv show. It was super exciting but sort of dried up as a result of the quarantine. But… boredom kick started my new hobby and a little business got born.

My husband John and I are the brains and the worker bee’s behind Ipswich River Craft. He – too is in tv, senior producer for This Old House – and brings his high-quality workmanship to each and every sign. He cuts all the wood and has taught me how to assemble it all. I like the painting and making people happy with the deliveries.

Each sign is made from scratch. We cut all the wood ourselves, paint the blocks as nautical signal flags, assemble the frames and varnish for the finishing touch.

Another craft getting attention is my location sign – also done to bid time in between tv gigs. It’s a bunch of places John and I have been too. All pointing in the correct direction with actual mileage. Who knew it too would be a hit, but everyday people stop and take pictures and it even made the local newspaper.

The first nautical signal sign we made – spells out Clam Box, the name we gave our house. Sitting around the outdoor firepit one quite night, with our sign staring us in the face - the idea of making more seemed like a good idea during such a somber time. Keith and Britt Emery thought so too and ordered the first 7 signs – another friend had one shipped across the country. One month later we are up to 50 orders.
