About IslandIndigoGals
-
-
Our products are lime green when first taken out of the vat! It takes about a minute for them to oxidize and turn blue
-
Each individual piece is held and massaged in the vat for about 5 minutes each for 3-5 dips.
-
We use all sorts of tools to create our patterns
-
Drying is the longest part of the process - each item must dry completely before it's 2-5 dip in the vat.
Unique, hand dyed items from Lady's Island, Beaufort, South Carolina
Island Indigo items are all hand-dyed with natural indigo on Lady's Island in Beaufort, SC. Each Island Indigo item has its own unique look and is 100% natural material.
Hours upon hours of work are put into every single one of our unique items. Dyeing with natural indigo is no easy task but we are determined to create beautiful, quality pieces for our customers.
Our work is inspired by Eliza Lucas Pinckney (1722-1793) who revolutionized agriculture in colonial South Carolina, where she developed indigo as as top cash crop (beside cotton and rice). She discovered and perfected the intricate, thousand-year-old secret process of making indigo dye.
A portion of all sales will be donated to brain cancer research.
