About Its-n-Bits-n-Things...

Its-n-Bits-n-Things is a mother/daughter run business. I'm Sarah (AKA "Mom"), and my daughters are Hope and Shailyn, ages 17 and 16. I am teaching my girls crafting, business skills, photography, and customer relations through the wonderful world of Etsy, although often times I am as much of a student as they are! We hope you enjoy our blend of whimsy and old-fashioned charm in items that are both useful and affordable.

How We Started

In the fall of 2013, Sarah and Hope were offered the amazing opportunity to go on a short-term mission trip to Thailand to work with Karen children who are refugees from Burma*. Since a trip like that would cost money, we immediately began brainstorming ways to raise the funds. Staci Brown (sister-in-law/aunt), owner of The Velvet Vine suggested opening an Etsy store! Starting with fabric/burlap covered corkboards, we opened Its-n-Bits-n-Things in December 2013. Since then, we have branched into other items including vintage-style magnetic chalkboards. We have discovered that we love the entire process of being Etsy store owners - from the interaction with customers, to the hand-building of orders, to the packing up and shipping (our USPS mail lady, Jill, is the best!) With the profits from our store, we have been able to visit the refugee school again in 2015 and twice in 2016. In 2017 our whole family was blessed to be part of a team to take Christmas to a safe house in Kathmandu for rescued girls. We consider all of our customers to be partners with us in sharing love and light to our world.

About The Owners

Sarah: My wonderful husband Tucker provides me with the privilege of staying at home with our four children, Hope (17), Shailyn, (16), Timothy (11), and Trenton (10). We live beside the beautiful Bitterroot River in a small Montana town. The girls and I also sell our crafts at our local Farmers Market, where we enjoy the face-to-face customer interaction which that venue brings. As a mom and teacher, there's not always measurable visible progress in the day-to-day busyness of life - dishes are always dirty... laundry always needs folding... somebody is ALWAYS hungry....and didn't I JUST clean the bathroom? Building beautiful, useful items for our Etsy store gives me a creative outlet and sense of accomplishing something tangible with my hands, which is really quite thrilling!

Hope: I am seventeen years old and live in Stevensville, Montana. I am the oldest of four kids. Dogs, horses, and dolphins are my favorite animals. We have two boxers. Mattey and Willow, and three miniature Hereford cows - May, Rowan, and Mr. Bean. I love to swim and play sports like volleyball and Ultimate Frisbee.

Shailyn: I am 16 years old and will be in the 10th grade this year. I live in a house by the river with my mom and dad, older sister, and two little brothers . The things I like to do best are swimming and reading.
