Buenos Aires-born Eugenia Zoia completed her degree in Fashion Design at University of Buenos Aires and founded JARDIN ESTAMPAS in 2014, as a way of life related to independent, creative, self-managed and healthy work.
JARDIN sprung from a desire to build a brand which creates products that are in harmony with our environment and society. The brand is inspired by the fascinating work of the Indigenous people of Latin America, who have created and developed the tradition of natural dyeing.
Every piece is hand crafted using traditional techniques, from fabric selection and pattern making to garment cutting and the development of prints. During the dyeing and printing process, each piece acquires its own identity. No two garments are the same, with each piece being completely unique. Each garment is produced by small and independent garment workshops under the designer’s supervision. JARDIN encourages its garment workers to work on their own projects in order to foster entrepreneurship while sustaining local traditions, crafts and cultures, thereby strengthening community ties.
Most of the materials employed come from repurposed and surplus fabrics sourced from warehouses, old stores, or discards from the conventional textile industry, helping to reduce waste and extend the life of unworn clothes. The textile wastes generated in the process are reused in new product series.
JARDIN not only manufactures its own dyes and soaps but also recycles printing tools in order to reduce the negative impact on the environment. The prints are inspired by nature and the garments are hand-colored with natural dyes derived from different vegetables such as: onion peels, black tea, yerba mate (a native South American herbal tea leaf), indigo, walnut, tara, purple corn, poplar, fresh leaves from Argentinean trees and petals flowers, among others. All the materials used in the manufacture of the dyes are non-toxic, and after processing they return to the ground to generate fertilizer. The experimentation and search for new materials is constant, as is the surprise of the new colors!
