About

Glassblowing: My One Man Band

In my other profession, music (specifically bass), I collaborate with other musicians out of necessity. Glassblowing (the way I learned it) allows me to create things entirely on my own. It gives my loner side a much-needed vehicle. I extend that spirit to this online store by running the whole show by myself.

Everything here is designed, made, photographed, processed and shipped by yours truly. I rent studio time at a local hot shop and run the online store out of my studio apartment. The stockroom and photo studio reside in the kitchen area and shipping materials are stacked up in the bedroom/office. I've always preferred small, intimate quarters - I find minimal overhead is most conducive to creativity.

I like to improvise. One-of-a-kind experimental pieces will always be a part of what I do. (I am also introducing repeatable production-style items and enhancing cohesion within series.)

I consider soft glass to be an endangered art form as utility costs rise and mass-produced imports become ever more widespread. Like the wildlife in the desert terrain I enjoy visiting so much, my goal is to persevere and thrive in this difficult environment. I have faith that a small group of consumers will carry on with discernment and soul.

I am grateful to ETSY for providing a crucial sales venue and enabling me to reach audiences far beyond my region.

Thank you for your interest!

My process is experimental by nature. Most items are one-of-a-kind - many would be highly impractical if not impossible to replicate.

Measurements are rounded to the nearest quarter inch. (More precise physical specifications can be provided on request.)

Non credit orders, please be prepared to contact me immediately after the sale, and to have payment en route within 48 hours.

I reserve the right to void a sale of no contact is made and/or payment sent after 1 week.
Shipping
Shipping charges are for the estimated postage cost, which will vary according to weight, distance and the type of service selected. (When the shipping charge significantly exceeds the actual postage, I will refund the difference. This happens sometimes with combined orders where the weight estimate often runs high.)

I normally use the US Postal System. First Class Parcel service offers very affordable rates for parcels under one pound. Priority service ensures delivery in 3 business days (including Saturday) within the continental United States. The parcel enters the postal system by the end of the business day after the order is placed (same day often happens when the order is placed early enough and I am not too busy).

My smaller parcels normally do NOT require a signature for delivery. A signature requirement can be added for $2.50. Please contact me to arrange that.

If you have specific time constraints or strong preferences for a different service, please contact me prior to purchase, and be prepared to cover additional costs.

I do not normally recommend Express or overnight service - the pickup delays from this smaller Post Office, combined with my often-congested mid-day schedule, make true next-day delivery unlikely. (Priority Post is almost as quick and far less costly.)

I welcome international customers! If you message me with a query, I can quickly reconfigure a listing to include shipping to your region. I recommend First Class Post to keep costs reasonable. Delivery times vary quite a bit - even to nearby Western Canada. (What I've seen thus far is 10 days to a month...) Other services or carriers may cut delivery time significantly but add a great deal of expense. The buyer is responsible for all customs & duty. I will NOT misrepresent any details on a customs form for the sake of lowering or evading fees. Please take extra care making your selections, as the cost of return postage is often prohibitive.
Additional policies and FAQs
I do not generally do custom orders. Certain ideas may be possible - especially when combining colors and shapes I currently offer. More elaborate shapes, large scale items and graphic designs are currently not doable.

Quantity purchases may be considered on a case by case basis. High volume wholesale would be problematic due to my somewhat limited production capacity.
