About

Hand Engraved Custom Heirloom Jewelry

Ever since I was a small child, I've had some kind of art project in the works. Stacks of sketch books filled with watercolor paintings, charcoal drawings, calligraphy and doodles have housed my ideas up until a couple of years ago. My husband encouraged me to look into the art of Hand Engraving. I had heard about hand engraving and admired the ornate engravings on old rifles and knives but never thought about trying it myself. When I did, I was hooked! My first engravings didn't look like much but I knew I had found an art form I could pour my ideas into.

My ideas are often inspired by nature and designs found in architecture and manuscripts. Working off of my sketches, I scribe designs onto metals such as silver, brass and gold and engrave them by removing cuts of metal. Using a very sharp blade, I am able to cut lines with a mirrory finish that sparkle and dance in the light with the movement of the jewelry.

Every design in my shop is cut by me, by hand. Being able to work this way allows me to decorate the metal in any style my mind can imagine. The possibilities are endless!

JBowerEngraving specializes in hand engraved sterling silver jewelry. Each item contains an image that is hand cut--not hand stamped and not machine cut. I use a sharp blade to cut and remove metal. This allows for a beautiful bright shimmering cuts that cannot be duplicated in hand stamped items.

Engraved pendants and charms are a wonderful gift for any holiday, birthday, a new mom, bridal party or in memory of a loved one.

If you have something in mind that you don't see in my shop, please send me a message. I love to work on creating one-of-a-kind custom items.

Additional policies and FAQs
Silver and Tarnish: Be Educated and Read The Following

I use solid .925 sterling silver from one of the nation’s top precious metal suppliers. It is straight solid sterling, not sterling plated, not rhodium plated. If you aren't familiar with any of the information listed below, Google it. You will find the same explanations across the board regarding sterling silver.

Silver will tarnish. It’s not a matter of if, it is a matter of when. Silver will tarnish. Some people can wear sterling silver for months and it stays looking like the day they got it. For others, it can tarnish with in a matter of days. Why? Tarnish occurs for a variety of reasons including and not limited to:
salt and sulfur in the air, supplements, medications and vitamins that can leach out of your skin, chlorine and other harsh chemicals, bleach, laundry detergents, perfumes, lotions hairsprays, etc.

How can you prevent tarnish and care for your silver piece? Wipe the pendant clean with a soft polishing cloth such as the Sunshine Brand Cleaning Cloth. These types of cloth have a silver cleaning compound built into them and are gentle and will not harm the silver or damage the engraving. DO NOT USE abrasive polishes. Toothpaste, silver paste and other various home remedy cleaners are not recommended for cleaning silver. They can lead to fine scratches that will actually accelerate the tarnish and could harm the engraving.

You can also purchase tarnish inhibiting jewelry bags very inexpensively which will help inhibit tarnish once a piece has been cleaned and stored.

I absolutely do not warranty my items against tarnish. They are .925 Solid Sterling Silver. The wearer of the piece is responsible to properly clean and store his/her item. There are too many variables with environmental or personal factors that can affect how quickly a piece tarnishes. When an item is shipped to you it is sent after receiving a final professional buffing and polishing. Once the item is in your care, it is exactly that, it is in your care. I cannot control the environment in which you live, what you are wearing on your skin, how you are caring for it or any other variable that touches the silver once it is in your possession.

What happens if I didn't properly care for my item and it’s looking dark? Maybe you forgot and wore your necklace in a swimming pool. Maybe you sprayed on some perfume and it got all over your pendant. It happens. Clean the item with a cleaning cloth such as the one mentioned above. In extreme cases, a pendant might need professional cleaning. Jewelers have equipment and experience to clean and buff silver to it’s original state. Take your item to a reputable jeweler or contact me to have me clean and buff it for you.

What if I’m one of those people whose skin causes silver to tarnish rapidly? This happens. You should be in the habit of wiping your silver clean between each wearing and before storing it. There are methods of coating the silver, contact me to inquire.

Brass pendants are left "raw" or unpolished and unlacquered unless otherwise noted in the listing. This allows the brass to developed an antiqued patina over time. The engraving will darken and become more prominent with wear. I do include instructions with all orders on how to keep the brass polished if you prefer it to have a shinier look.
