All pieces are Stoneware, they were thrown on my wheel (Brent) and then they were bisque fired to cone 06 in my electric kiln.

Here are brief descriptions of some of my favorite Glazing techniques:

Glazed pieces are fired in my electric kiln to cone 6. All of the glazes I use are commercially purchased glazes, which are certified Lead free. They are food, dishwasher and microwave safe!

Anagama Pieces are fired in a special kiln for approximately a week. Only wood is used to fuel the fire. At least a dozen artists get together to fire this kiln 24 hours a day. The pieces created are very special, as this kiln is only fired twice a year. The Anagama kiln reaches cone 12. There is no glaze applied to these pieces, all decoration and glass is formed from the wood ash melting onto the piece at the extreme temperature. All functional pieces, cups etc are food dishwasher microwave save since no chemicals are used in the firing process.

Horse hair pieces are burnished before they are bisque fired, the burnishing creates a smooth texture on the outside of the piece. After bisquing the vase is then reheated and horse hair is applied to the red hot piece and burned in. Pieces are then rubbed with wax and a soft cloth. Horse hair pieces are not water safe, they are for decorative purposes only!

Ferric Chloride/Saggar fired pieces are saggar fired in a raku kiln with horse hair and saw dust. The chemicals and reduction atmosphere are what creates the spectrum of colors from yellow, red to black flashings on the surface. Since the Ferric Chloride pieces are not vitrified, they are not water safe! They are for decorative purposes only!
