Southwestern Style Gifts and Decor from New Mexico USA

Being a stay at home Mom for my two baby girls Kristal and Jessika, I felt a need to be creative and also help my husband financially.
My mother was a very creative lady, I can remember her always sewing making us kids clothes, she even made my sister and I our own "Barbie doll" clothes. She also made us doll houses and furniture with upholstery out of wood using carpenter tools, scrap lumber & scrap material.
I remember being very young and she would take me to her "Ceramic" classes with her. All of the older ladies would have their big beautiful bisque or greenware pieces in front of them sitting around a long rectangular table. I would sit next to Mom with my little tiny piece to paint. As they chatted and discussed I just watched in awe as they created their beautiful masterpieces. Who knew that 35 years later I would be making and painting my own handmade beautiful masterpieces.
One year for my birthday my husband surprised me with a Canvas, Easle, Paints and some brushes. I said "what am I supposed to do with this?" He said "get serious and create some real artwork!" As I would tinker around with my little crafty wood projects at times, he seen something in me that I didn't. So the canvas sat there for quite a long time, I was so scared of messing up that pretty white surface. One sunny afternoon as I sat outside on our porch I seen a small flat rock on the ground. As I stared at it, I seen a scenery in its little crevices. I picked it up took my paints and brushes and painted what I saw. From that moment on I looked everywhere for small flat rocks to paint on. Thinking that if I mess it up what's to loose, nothing but just a little bit of paint. I soon had a large collection of painted rocks that were piling up on me. So one day I packed them all up and took a drive not really knowing where I'd go but figured I might find someone out there interested in them. I found a gift shop, went in and asked if they would like to take a look at my little creations. They went outside with me as I set some up on the tailgate of our truck they "Loved" them! And they bought every single one of them for their gift shop that day. From then on I was hooked! I knew my work would sell. I kept collecting small to medium even some larger flat rocks to paint on. I had also came up with a unique natural way to display them with funky shaped drift wood. On the weekends I had my husband gathering rocks as the girls and I would gather "Mommy's Crazy Sticks" they called them, for the stands. I kept the Gift shop supplied with new paintings and set up at arts and crafts booths. One day I had a request to paint a large scale Mural for a backdrop of a Taxidermy shop. I tossed it around and decided to practice here at home first. I painted my daughters rooms with a Ocean Scenery with dolphins and underwater sea life on one side of the room and Whales and Outdoor Scenery on the other. My other daughters room I painted a Tropical Scene with water falls and two life size Tigers. On the other side of the room I painted a Safari with Leopards, Cheetahs, Giraffe's and Elephants along with the scenery. Everyone was in Awe and couldn't believe It. I painted the Mural for the Taxidermy shop and they loved it. I soon began painting murals and faux finishes all over the Albuquerque and surrounding areas. In 2008 everything came to a screeching halt, and there was nothing happening. My husband came down with phenomonia and I had to find work. As I drove on I40 through Albuquerque one afternoon I seen a huge billboard that read Handmade lighting and furniture from local artists! I went by and showed them a few pictures of my artwork. They sent some Ceramic Lamps home with me to paint, I took them back finished and they loved them. After 5 years of painting for them and filling orders of my work that they added to their website I took over making their ceramics also. My husband and I worked on our workshop by adding on and made room for Kilns, Molds, Tables and much much more. In 2014 the store was having financial troubles and slowly but surely had to shut the doors. I am now on my own creating beautiful one of a kind Specialty Southwestern, Western and Wildlife Decor that I Love to do. Working with Customers to come up with the perfect Gift or Idea is a great passion besides creating something someone will be very proud to display in their home or business.
