JJMermaids is taking a short break
I make metal clay jewelry, and really like Mermaids :-)
So what the heck is metal clay? It is pulverized metal mixed with natural binders which is then used as you would clay. It is fired in a high temperature kiln burning off the binders and leaving solid metal (I work in .999 fine silver, copper and bronze primarily). Unlike cast jewelry, the metal in metal clay never fully melts, but "sinters" together.. sort of like a hard packed snow-ball of metal powder if you will. This allows metal work without specialized casting equipment, and without the mold making process.
All of my jewelry is hand made.. if I ever go missing, they can pull my prints from my work - not really, but theoretically ;) . I do make press molds of my work, so that I can reproduce them with some consistency, but even the "sister" mermaids are a little different, since press molds do not release cleanly.
Well... I live in NJ with my hubby and my 2 sweet puppy "children" Tipper and Jackson. I like to dabble in jewelry making, most recently using various different kinds of metal clay. I tend to post my work sporadically but I hope you like what I do!
