Lucy was fabulous to work with - great communication and the items were made & shipped quickly. She was so accomodating in making two custom hats for my kids and they look wonderful! Very well made. Would definitely shop here again!

About

My stay at home hobby!

I learned how to crochet in 2008. It was something fun to do in my spare time and I always loved making new things. Before my first child was born I wanted to make him some hats and things. I found an easy hat pattern and then found all these cool things I could add to it. Earflaps, flowers, brims- the accessories were endless! This is when I decided I wanted to start selling what I made.

I always wanted to be a stay at home mom so I knew I would have to find something to do at home to help with our money situation and so I wouldn't go crazy:) I looked online for stay at home jobs, called businesses in the area, and contemplated babysitting, not realizing I had a job right at my fingertips. When I opened my shop in March 2011, I had already tried Facebook (that failed and is still failing!), so I had high hopes. I made my first sale a few days later and then came the waiting. It got into the summer days and no hats were sold. I got very discouraged but then fall came along.

I was super busy starting in Sept and I was loving it! By the time Christmas rolled around I was swamped! Since then I've learned different ways I can keep my head on straight while filling my orders and now I enjoy being busy. I had my second little boy on Valentine's Day of this year and haven't had an order since but I'm definitely not sitting idle. This is when I catch up. I try and make hats for the coming fall and winter.

I feel very blessed to be able to care for my two boys at home and to be able to help my husband financially. My husband has been a real encouragement to me also. He will give his opinions about styles and will almost always say, "That's pretty cool." when I come up with a new design. We didn't have a computer when I started out so he made sure by Thanksgiving when things got hairy that I got one as a Christmas gift:) He's the best.

My oldest son always loves to see what I'm making and always wants to have a hat just like it. I never make as many for him as he would like but he is happy with the hats I do make him:) My boys are one of my many inspirations. I love them to pieces! Also other shop owners give me lots of inspiration. Whenever I'm stuck I just browse through what others have made to get color, style, and design ideas! It's so fun to see how creative everyone else is!

I think the thing that makes me stick out from the other hat crocheters is I make a lot of custom hats. I make them the size and color my customers want. Many of my buyers have said they can't find others that make hats bigger sizes like I do. I don't get many newborn orders because so many other shops have such a cute variety geared directly to newborn photo shoots. My shop is geared toward shoppers looking for something specific. Maybe something to go with a scarf or a certain coat. They come to me to get the exact color, size, and style they were looking for! It's so fun making something that I know someone will love.

I also love making other things besides hats. Headbands and hairclips, scarves and blankets are also some things I've made! They give my shop a little bit of variety and make so more then just hat shoppers stop by. I love making new things too so I look forward to one day getting orders for things I've never made before. Creating an item from just a ball of yarn is so exciting to me:)

In the future I would love to be busy year round but for now with my two rugrats I'm fine with the seasonal busyness. Maybe one day I can find that niche that will get me business all the time. Thanks so much for reading my story and don't forget to check out the shop!

I love what I do and have trouble getting all my ideas made before they leave my head! I have two boys that keep me hopping but I love keeping my customers happy!

I'm a stay at home mom that likes to have something to do other then take care of my son and housework. That is why I started my little hobby! I have been crocheting since April 2008 and love it more and more. But I also realize my family is more important then my pleasure! All that to say I try very hard to please my customers but in the end family comes first:)
