About

Art quilts depicting Native American culture, my faith, nature, or anything else that inspires me.

My inspiration for quilting comes from my Native American culture, my faith, nature or anything that intrigues me. With my formal background being in fibers and photography, I see my work as the culmination of these two passions. I’ve always been drawn to textiles, and when I studied Fiber-Arts and loom-weaving in college, I was introduced to art quilting. I hadn’t been anywhere near a sewing machine since middle school and was delighted by the discovery of creating art by quilting. I bought my first sewing machine and promptly began experimenting.

It has been several years since I began my journey with art quilting and many life changes have occurred. One life event that has inspired my work is the passing of my father. My father had been my primary connection to the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, where I am a member. Once he passed away, I had a strong desire to maintain and rediscover my roots. My recent work is an example of this desire.

I was a featured artist at the Native American Tourism of Wisconsin Conference in 2013 and my work has been featured in Art Quilting Studio magazine.
