Announcement   Backed by Maine Made - known for quality craftsmanship.

If you're in the Belfast, Maine area head over to Country Blessings. I have select items available at their storefront. https://www.facebook.com/CountryBlessingsGiftShoppe

Everything in my shop is HAND MADE by me, 100%, from start to finish. I roll out the clay into a slab, cut out the form, create it, fire it in my kiln, glaze it, fire it again, take the pictures, post it here for you all to see, package up your order and send it to ya! There is NO middle man. Just yours truly....and the hubby. He's my shipping manager and drops all the boxes off at the post office... hehe :-D

Wabi Sabi is an aesthetic centered on acceptance of transience & imperfection, it is sometimes described as one of beauty that is "imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete". I think that quite accurately describes my ceramics to a T!

I accept credit cards, debit cards, Etsy Gift Cards, and PayPal.

Please read all policies, especially those regarding shipping if you need your item quick, fast, and in a hurry! :-) When preparing to place your order PLEASE look at the processing time. Most made to order items have a current processing/turn around time of 6-8 weeks. Please keep this in mind when ordering. If you need it sooner, send me a message so we can agree on a shipping/processing time. THANKS!!

About

100% Differently-abled

I first discovered my love of ceramics in October 2011 when I visited The Pottery, Art, and Writing Studio and Showroom in Stockton Springs, Maine. There has always been a spark of interest in learning to throw pottery, though I was hoping that I would find some measure of therapy in this endeavor. Thankfully, pottery/ceramics has become just that. The therapeutic affects it is having in relation to my service-connected illnesses/disabilities has been a blessing. My love of art and this broken body of mine have been able to come together in harmony at long last. I have been lucky enough to share my love of self-expression to those closest to my heart; my son, Caden, and husband, Justin.

I am proud to say that I am a retired (yes, at 32), disabled Iraqi war veteran. I served for just shy of 4 years in the US Army as a combat medic. Right around my seventh month in Iraq, my health took a drastic turn; I began having seizures. From that point on, my health has continued its downward spiral. On any given day, I deal with tremors, pins/needles/weakness in my left hand, severe leg pain, weakness in my legs, lower back pain, extreme fatigue...and the list goes on. I use elbow brace crutches on a daily basis to get around with, and on the bad days, I am wheelchair bound. Thankfully, my seizures are somewhat under control with medication. Each day is a struggle...but with this new found gift in creative expression, that struggle has significantly lessened. No longer are my disabilities the forefront of what defines who I am. Now, my abilities are showcased.

I love being able to say that my ceramics are 100% made in the USA!! I primarily create items from slabs of clay rolled out on my slab roller, compared to most other ceramic artists who create their wares by "throwing" on the pottery wheel. My husband would like me to focus on my sculptures...but when an idea comes into mind, I feel the need to try it out. This is why I have such a wide variety of items available. Trinket dishes, ring dishes, beads, buttons, charms, pendants, earrings, pins, magnets, and of course - ornaments! I love the freedom of having a studio at home, creating whatever I want, when the mood strikes. It is extremely therapeutic to say the least. With my hands in clay, the pain seems to dissipate and the emotional turmoil is quiet. Life is good, despite the obstacles. :)

Everything in my shop is hand crafted from various types of clay. The clay is first rolled through the slab roller to make it the desired thickness. I then either stamp out my desired shapes with various tools or cut them free hand. The shapes/templates are then allowed to air dry completely. At this point, I have a choice to make, to bisque fire them plain or paint an underglaze design on them. Those that I paint an underglaze design on will get a clear glaze top coat in the glaze kiln. Those that I do not paint with underglaze are fired plain and then decorated with various glazes (these are not as detailed). For me, the underglazing is the most fun part of the whole process. I enjoy seeing just how intricate I can get in the details of the piece.

A kiln is what is used to “fire” each and every piece. Each piece is “bisque fired” when it is completely air dry. It reaches 1900+ degrees Fahrenheit. The pieces are then glazed and then “glaze fired”. The glaze firing exceeds 2200 derees Fahrenheit. When the pieces are removed from this kiln, so long as the appropriate glazes are used, the ceramics are food, microwave, oven, and dishwasher safe!
