Announcement   Here at Jackdaw Bindery you will find a wonderful selection of hand-bound soft leather wrap journals and sketchbooks created using a range of hand selected papers and leathers.

Most of the leathers I use have been sourced as a by-product from the upholstery and automotive trade which may otherwise end up as waste. Each and every item that you find in my shop has been hand-crafted with love by myself in my little studio in Chichester, West Sussex on the South Coast of England.

I accept custom orders so if you’re looking for something special, send me a convo and perhaps I can help!

Every item in my shop is made-to-order and may take up to 3 weeks to complete before shipping, therefore to avoid disappointment please check out my shop policies for up-to-date shipping times and other important information to you may find useful before placing an order. You can find these here: http://www.etsy.com/shop/JackdawBindery/policy

I am also on etsy at the following locations:

About

Dearest Jackdaw

Born out of a love for all things creative, Dearest Jackdaw was set up as a hub for all my creative endeavours. I wanted to reach out to people and share my knowledge, creations and inspire others to try new things.

The name derives from an old business card I found whilst frustratingly trying to think of a name for my new little business. The card belonged to my late Grandmother and referred to her old antique store from years gone by - "The Jackdaw Antiques". Right away it felt so special and so, Dearest Jackdaw was born.

Predominantly I make books, inspired again by my late Grandmother. I remember when she passed away I was given the job of finding the perfect book to allow people to write their thoughts and memories of her part in their life within it's pages.
I spent days wandering my home town, searching each and every shop, finding it so so hard to find something fitting and worthy of holding such thoughtful words. I thought I'd failed, until finally arriving at the very last shop, a tiny art store who had for sale these beautiful hand-bound books containing wonderful quality paper. I'd never seen anything so lovely - It was perfect.

This really made me think about how important it was to find the perfect product. Something that will last a lifetime and more, to be handed down, to contain special memories about your children, your wedding day, your life journey. I began researching and experimenting with bookbinding and absolutely adored it. I spent a long time perfecting my technique before listing my first books on Etsy, made from leather reclaimed once again from my Grandmother's worn furniture. These books went down incredibly well and so I continued creating, introducing new colours and papers into my shop growing each day to what it is today.

When I'm not here, you can find me at my blog where I like to share all sorts of wonderful bits and pieces including artist's features, craft tutorials, beautiful imagery, my other creative loves and various ramblings amongst other things.

I love what I do and wouldn't change it for the world.

Additional policies and FAQs
Rush Orders:
Please understand that due to my current workload I am unable to offer rush orders of any kind.

Stock Unavailability:
On very rare occasions the leather colour you have selected for your journal may be unavailable. Due to the way some of my listings are set-up this is currently unavoidable especially during peak seasons where it's difficult to keep track of stock when things are moving so fast! If this does happen, I will contact you to let you know, and run through some options with you.

Leather:
Please note that as leather is a natural material, occasionally there will be peculiarities - this is not a flaw, but adds to the character of each piece. Most of the hides I use have been sourced as a by-product from the upholstery and automotive trade which may otherwise end up as waste. I will never use a damaged piece of leather in my work but will use leather with markings on the reverse which may include colour codes and hide information, to prevent unnecessary wastage. If this is an issue just let me know at time of purchase and I will be sure to make your item with a different piece.

Leather and Page Colours:
Each and every eye/camera/monitor/screen will view and display colour differently - whilst I try my utmost to photograph and edit my images to show the correct colour of each leather choice, not every screen will show exactly the same and so it is expected that there may be slight colour discrepancies between the colour you see on the screen and the item one you receive it. If in doubt, please request a free sample of up to 3 of your chosen colours, free of charge.

Printed Pages:
All my printed pages (lined, recipe books, staff pages etc) are printed at home on a high-quality printer using genuine Canon inks. On occasion pages may be aligned ever-so slightly to the left or right of the centre, this does not affect the overall aesthetic of the item but confirms its handmade origin. I do check each and every page before binding it into a book but every now and then I may miss the odd irregularity in the form of small ink smudges, if this occurs many of these can usually be removed by gently rubbing with a pencil eraser.

If you are unhappy with how your order has progressed and you feel the need to leave anything but positive feedback - please contact me first and I will do my absolute best to resolve any issues you may have.
