I bought this desk for my office, which has an industrial / retro vibe. I can't tell you how happy I am with this extraordinary piece of art. The pictures don't do it justice; it has a smooth, gloss-like sheen and the wood pieces are perfectly fanned out, making it a striking visual. I went with the hairpin legs and I'm glad I did as it ties with my office, plus the legs actually open up my small office space, making it feel less crowded and more zen. I'll definitely order again from Jaclyn in the future. 6 stars.

About

Our New Frontier

My wife and I shared a dream. We wanted to live a simple, sustainable life. We wanted control of our time and our careers. We wanted to be more self-reliant. We wanted to make family a priority. We wanted a pet pig. I'm still waiting for that pig.

Scrap Wood Designs is our dream. It began in our garage in 2011. Jaclyn was already a talented artist, but before it had only been a hobby. She has worked in painting, photography, and stained glass, but her true passion is working with wood. Then everything clicked. In 2012, she left her cubicle job to focus fully on her art.

The business grew as most good things grow: slowly and with a lot of hard work. In 2015, the business outgrew our garage. We needed more space so we left Seattle for Whidbey Island to get a proper workshop. Now we both work on Scrap Wood Designs full time.

We're still growing and we're still working hard, but we love what we do. That love shows in the art we create and the way we run our business. That's never going to change.

Additional policies and FAQs
Custom orders are always welcome. Please contact me for turn around times and availability.

Wood has a natural tendency to expand and contract over time, especially in high humidity or very dry climates. I do what I can to minimize the scale of this natural occurrence by adding several layers of sealant to each of my wood pieces, which minimizes the moisture change that cause these fluctuations in the wood. But there are times when it is inevitable, especially in the drier climates, and some minor wood splits or small cracks appear (in millimeters). I think of this as the piece adapting and personalizing to the individual location, but if you have concerns please ask me for more information prior to your purchase.

Thank you!
