“What’s in your hand?” This is the question that came to mind when I was looking for a way to raise funds for Haiti. In a very short time Jacmel Bay was birthed. I had no experience making jewelry but when my daughter showed me the beautiful sea glass from Jacmel Bay I knew that sea glass was what I had in my hand. I enrolled in a workshop and got to work. In July, 2010 just two months after I started making necklaces I traveled to Jacmel to visit my daughter and her family where they were raising orphaned and abandoned children. I also went as a teacher. I brought with me 10 kits containing beads and wire and tools. I worked with young adults in Jacmel to teach them the trade. Most of my students are deaf and use American Sign Language to communicate. Because I can speak with ASL there was no communication barrier. I was able at that time to buy some of their work and resell it for donations to Haiti Relief. This has been a rewarding and exciting experience for me. I again traveled to Haiti in Jan 2011 and worked with my students.
As I sell products on etsy it is my goal and dream to grow a business that will enable me to have a positive impact not only in the lives of these deaf students but in the greater Jacmel community. To that end 25% of all of the profits from my sales with Jacmel Bay will go to Olive Tree Projects a nonprofit NGO that operates a family style foster home in Jacmel as well as a maternity midwifery clinic.
Your purchases will have a positive impact on countless lives. Thanks you for choosing Jacmel Bay.

Jacmel Bay was birthed from a need to meet a need.

Denise started Jacmel Bay in direct response to the earthquake that hit Haiti in 2010. What began as fund raising for the immediate needs in Jacmel, Haiti evolved into a small business. Denise works with a group of Deaf young adults when she vists her daughter's family in Haiti providing them with a means of self employment and epowerment. Twenty five persent of all sales from Jacmel Bay goes to the ongoing work of Olive Tree Projects.

Jacmel Bay is a new business that has been created for the purpose of creating a continued awareness of the needs, and to aid in the ongoing work in Jacmel, Haiti. My daughter and son in law are raising orphaned children in a family setting. You can follow her blog at mangine.org
All items are hand crafted. All items are naturally tumbled and never machined finished. Glass was harvested by the artist and her wonderful grandchildren on the shores of Jacmel Bay on the southern Coast of Haiti.
