about me

AN IAMLAB HM 100: MODERN HANDMADE 100 HONOREE

raised in oklahoma, the Husband and i moved to nyc in 2000. after a couple hectic careers in finance and fashion, i decided to take a break.

we moved to brooklyn and i started a blog called james dry goods, which was inspired by my great-grandfather's general store.

i also started sewing and then i started painting on fabric. when i created a print i loved, i would make journal covers and clutches for my friends.

last spring, i decided to teach myself (with the help of my artist mother) how to shibori because i needed a beach tote and a few new sarongs for vacation. i loved making them so much, i decided to make some for you too!

last fall, i needed a few new throw pillow covers, so I made a few for all of us!

and this spring, i decided to share my paintings with you!

if something you love has sold out (every piece is one of a kind in a limited number), don't worry! drop me an email, so i can keep you posted on when new stock will be on the site!

if you want to see more of what i am up to just follow me on twitter and instagram...or you can just sneak right over to the blog!

thanks so much for stopping by and checking out my store!

Additional policies and FAQs
Can I wash my pillow cover or tote?

Yes!  During the dying and sewing process, the dye on the fabric becomes stable and is colorfast.  I suggest hand washing and lying flat to dry.  The totes can also be handwashed, but I have also machine washed totes on the most delicate cycle and line drying with great results.

Where can I purchase pillow inserts?

If you don’t have a pillow form at home, I recommend Pillow Cubes for luxury inserts.  Based in Tennessee, I ordered from them and was so happy with the awesome quality and timely delivery!

How did you determine pricing?

For my hand dyed shibori pillow covers, I select, wash, fold, dye, cut and sew all the pieces.  Don’t get me wrong, I love the work, but it is a lot of steps to create a beautiful pillow case!

I am very aggressive about keeping my pricing as low as possible.  Prices are based on material costs with a small allocation for creativity and labor.  I want these pieces out in the world, so I am very conscious of pricing fairly.

Have a question? Send me an email or direct message! Looking forward to hearing from you!
