About

Etsy was a way to get my glass beads out of the closet.

I have been making borosilicate beads as a hobby and mostly as a stress reliever for years. I attempted to do some wire wrapping and jewelry, but it just wasn't my thing. I'll leave that to the professionals! I only wanted to make the beads and over the years I gave beads away and stashed them in my closet.

I was given a gift of a 15 lb cement garden gnome one Christmas from my sister-in-law. I actually cleared out my suitcase and took it home in carry-on luggage from Washington. One day I decided to try to make a mini version of the gnome and began working on the glass gnome bead. An obsession was born! I realized that I loved sculpting with glass and started making bizarre little people, face beads, witches, cats, you name it. The only thing I couldn't stand to do was 'regular' round beads!

So the gnomes started to build up in my closet, but I was getting good feedback from some of my husbands 'glass' friends and so I decided to finally open a Etsy store. I had some success and great feedback and decided to try some local bead shows in Madison and Milwaukee. The gnomes were a hit and have been purchased by some fascinating and creative people. Who knew there were so many gnome fans? The gnomes have gone international with a large quantity going to Japan, UK, and Austrailia.

Most importantly, making glass beads provides me with such ultimate focus and relaxation from my day job. It's my yoga and I strongly recommend it!

Thanks to all that have supported me on Etsy.
