Color and Sparkle

I have been designing and creating jewelry since I was 17. I was looking for a new hobby, and someone I knew was making jewelry, so I thought it would be fun to try. I started out making very basic necklaces of strung beads, but I discovered that I had a great eye for color and combining different elements. I sold my designs at school for a few months, but when school ended I didn't have another place to sell my stuff, so I gave it up.

A few years later, I found myself newly married and stuck at home without a job, and my box of jewelry supplies started calling my name again. I didn't have a place to sell what I was making, but for a few months I had something to do with my hands while I watched tv. During this time I began playing with a new medium - wire! During one of my very first trips to a bead store I saw a necklace on display that was made with wire, and I was in awe and completely intimidated by it. When I began working with wire, I knew it was what I really wanted to do, but I didn't have the confidence to go full force with it, so I only made a handful of different designs.

In spring of 2005 a new farmer's market opened up near by, and I was able to get a weekly booth to sell my jewelry. It was the first time I tried to sell my jewelry to strangers, and I couldn't believe how well I did! I developed a little bit of a cult following, and one of my wire designs, the button ring, became my most popular item. My success at the farmer's market really boosted my confidence, and when it closed for the winter I decided to open my own jewelry shop called Du Jour Jewelry. It was open for about a year and a half, but when I had our daughter in 2007 I knew I wouldn't be able to keep the store open and take care of a newborn.

I took a pretty long hiatus until 2011 when I started to make new stuff just for me this time. After years of thinking "One day I'll only make wire jewelry with Swarovski crystals," I finally decided to go for it. I learned some new techniques, and I was thrilled to finally be making the jewelry that I wanted to wear. I got a booth at a craft show where I met a girl who made jewelry organizers and sold them on Etsy, and she told me I should check it out. I am usually a big procrastinator, but I went home and opened a shop as soon as I got home, and I've been doing this ever since. To date I have sold to 5 continents and over 12 countries, and I am so thankful to all of my wonderful customers!

My design philosophy is that I always want the girl to be seen first then the jewelry. I believe less is more, and simple is best. I love color and Swarovski crystals and pearls. My designs are meant to be versatile in your wardrobe and can be dressed up or down (or in my case dressed up or really dressed up.) I don't pay to much attention to fads, because I really want my pieces to be timeless and stay with you for years.

Thank you for taking an interest in my shop, and I hope you like what you see!

Designing jewelry has been a passion of mine for ten years now. I started as a teenager with the most basic designs, but over the years I have taught myself many new techniques and have really come into my own design style. I love color and crystals!
