The beauty of miniature nature

The world of miniature always fascinated me. And let's face it, it's often a great alternative if you can't afford very expensive toys in your collection!

The reason for starting my shop is when I was working (playing really..) with animal figurines, and wanted to make mini hunting trophies with the horns and antlers of the little plastic creatures. But after making resin replicas (And after chopping lots of horns and heads on those little animals), I wasn't satisfied. The level of details was often sloppy, and I decided to create my own trophies, sculpting the skulls and mounting them on wooden plaques. I settled on a 1/12 scale for all my mounts. It is the perfection ratio of pretty small, and still being able to show eye catching details. it is also the standard scale for dollhouse projects, so my trophy mounts can fit perfectly in those small but realistic living rooms!

I may not be an active hunter myself, but the art of taxidermy always had my admiration. I do not see it as a dead animal, but rather a lifelike representation of a gorgeous animal. Even though taxidermy is old, and sometimes associated with dark castles and creepy halls, nowadays the level of realism in the fur, the expression in the eyes, and the dynamic action poses makes this sometimes controversial practice a very respectable form of art, comparable to wildlife painting or photography.

Just recently I designed miniature head/shoulder trophy mounts. I call them "trophies", but I think of them as beautiful animals that could be on display in a nature education centre, or a museum. The addition of what I call a "habitat sample" really show where the animal lives, and really brings them to life.
I don't know where this creative momentum is leading me to, but for now, enjoy what you'll see in my shop!

My passion for the natural world and the world of miniature is the reason for starting my shop. I love the challenge of replicating an object or a living thing on a small scale, as if it was magically shrunken. Go take a tour of my small world!
