I just had to do it!

I changed my job 14 years ago and started a silversmithing class on the same evening – I was smitten! I spent 4 years learning all sorts of techniques and then set up my business, though I still continue to go on short courses every now and again to learn new methods with different materials, like dichroic glass and the pewter I discovered a couple of years ago, learning both etching and casting.

The gingerbreadman became my talisman after someone commissioned me to do one as a present at the beginning of this venture and it snowballed from there. I become very attached to them as they all have different personalities, consequently I now christen them and supply them with adoption papers.

I work from home in a little studio that was once a conservatory, only ever used for drying clothes and then it got too damp to even do that. We had it demolished and rebuilt to be more suitable to house a bench drill, a firing station, a kiln, an acid bath, an etching bath and all sorts of other paraphenalia. There is still no room for the polisher or the rolling mill, so they still have to stay in the dark and dingy garage where I used to work at the very beginning.

The WE I've just mentioned, is my husband Mike. He 's my dogsbody (or technician if he wants to be official) or donkey! He mends and moves stuff, sets up equipment, makes pewter casts, dabbles with the glass and generally picks me up when I've had a bad day. However, the one who does that even better, is my dog Zuzu. She's a tiny, black, toy poodle and will always give encouraging cuddles when I need them - or even when I don't.

In 2014 I took the plunge and gave up my part-time job to concentrate solely on the jewellery. Feels like flying without a safety net - aghhhh!

I design and make jewellery that I like to wear myself. I use sterling silver, copper, enamel, dichroic glass, brass, pewter, semi-precious stones as well as pre-decimal British coins. Those that are not completely sterling silver will still contain some sterling silver within the design (though the pewter items will just be the brooch fastener, ear wires or the pendant chain.) I do NOT use silver plate.

I'm a Member of the Guild of Jewellery Designers and also of the Guild of Enamellers

Returns and exchanges
I gladly accept returns and exchanges

The following items can't be returned or exchanged
Because of the nature of these items, unless they arrive damaged or defective, I can't accept returns for:
  • Custom or personalized orders
  • Perishable products (like food or flowers)
  • Digital downloads
  • Intimate items (for health/hygiene reasons)
Returns and exchange details
I hope you like your purchase but if you change your mind, I will offer a full refund of any item as long as it/they is/are in the original condition and you tell me within 14 days of receiving the parcel. Postage is not refundable.
If your order has been personalised, then I am unable to exchange/refund, unless the item is faulty and you notify me within 14 days of receiving the parcel.
Shipping charges for sending back the items are the buyer's responsibility. For your protection, I recommend using a tracking service to return your item(s).
Payment
I accept Paypal and payment is required within 3 days of the order. The order will be cancelled and the item relisted if this doesn’t happen. I also accept payment by cheque, though I will wait for this to clear before despatching.
Shipping
All items come in a presentation box (except bracelets and the anodised aluminium items which will be in an organza bag) and will be securely packaged.

UK & IOM - Items will be sent out via Royal Mail Signed For within 5 days of receiving payment. An email will be sent to the buyer to confirm despatch. In the UK, the prices will include these postal charges; there is a little add-on of £2 for those in Europe outside the UK and these will be sent via the Royal Mail International Standard service.
I do not post to any countries outside of the UK/European Union.

Special Delivery can be requested - Royal Mail says this guarantees next day delivery and would insure you (for up to £500), however, this will cost you £7.
In the rest of the European Union, you can request International Tracked & Signed For and this will insure you (for up to £250), at £10 for 1 item and £2 extra for further items.

Sometimes postal deliveries don't happen which is a Royal Mail problem and is out of my control. Do use the tracking number I will have sent you - this SHOULD enable you to access the Royal Mail website and see where it is on it's journey to you. If you have not received your item within 7 working days (UK) of me posting it then please get in touch, however, it is Royal Mail who are responsible and need to be contacted; they require you to leave it 10 days before they will investigate.
For international deliveries please allow 15 working days as they can always be delayed. Please contact me within 30 days of ordering so that I can look into this for you. N.B. Buyers are responsible for any customs and import taxes applicable and I cannot be held responsible for any delays associated with customs.

Finally, items will be despatched when ready, within the 5 days I have indicated though often it will be the next day. However, should you only want delivery on a Saturday and are prepared to pay the extra cost to guarantee this, please notify me. Otherwise, make sure you have alternative arrangements in place, like leaving with a specified neighbour who will sign for it - I will gladly write a note on the package if that would help.

All my designs are individual, none of them are exactly the same though there will be some similarities with some designs, e.g. cats, elephants, sheep, gingerbreadmen etc., all from the same families but with different personalities, never identical.

All my sterling silver designs shown here are under 7.78g, the legal requirement for it not to be necessary to hallmark sterling silver. I have a hallmark at the Edinburgh Assay Office which I use for heavier, more expensive items and these will be added to this shop soon.

Cleaning & Maintenance. All silver and copper will tarnish with time due to exposure to the atmosphere, particularly moisture. The best way is to clean with a polishing cloth, though there are various homemade remedies that can be used involving vinegar/salt or lemon/cream of tartar. When not being worn, storing silver and copper jewellery in plastic sealable bags or in a lined box or soft puch, perhaps the box in which it was bought, will slow down the tarnishing process.
Finally, don't wear your jewellery while doing housework, gardening or swimming (chlorine in the water;) also the metals can be susceptible to chemicals in perfume, hairspray, deodorant ad nail polish remover.
