Jewelry Art Studio

Peter has been making jewelry for a living in Gainesville for over 20 years. Primarily self-taught, he works mostly with silver and bronze but uses gold for commissions and special projects. He uses a variety of techniques including forging, fusing, roller embossing, constructing, and casting. Experimenting and learning new techniques has always been a priority. He strives to create pieces that provide a unique and hand-crafted quality coupled with a timeless elegance and fine craftsmanship.

Peter's designs are heavily inspired by the natural world with many ideas coming from the land and sea. He uses shapes borrowed from leaves and flowers because the compound curves, ruffled edges, and interesting textures translate well into metalsmithing techniques, particularly forging, forming, and roll embossing. Their organic shapes also help soften the hard look and feel of the metals. He uses the gentle curves and tapers found in vines and branches to tie elements together. Shells and sea life offer an infinite variety of shapes, forms, and textures.

The Seashell Collection is comprised of shells found on Florida beaches, directly molded and cast in solid metal to make exact replicas of these beautiful natural objects for jewelry and buckles. Wax originals are also carved and sculpted to make anatomically correct portraits of fish and animals to be cast into silver and bronze belt buckles. Balance and movement are important in Peter's pieces, both visually and mechanically. Designs don't always have to be symmetrical but they do have to be balanced. Stones, beads, colored metals, and rich textures add visual interest and contrast to highly polished surfaces. His attention to detail and finish is of the utmost importance to his craft.

Shop policies

***Please take the time to read this page, it offers a lot of valuable info regarding me, my policies, my products and my shop.***

Hello and welcome to jewelryartstudio I hand craft each piece of jewelry on this shop. I hand solder, wax cast, hand set every stone, hand patina and hand finish each item. I love the challenge of designing unique and one-of-a-kind and series jewelry.

I do not use any silver imitation metals, I use only Argentium silver .935 and Sterling Silver .925 along with bronze, and real gemstones.

***Price differences vary due to sterling silver market prices, thickness of metal used, chain type, clasp type, stones used and man hours I put into the piece.***

Additional policies and FAQs
Please use common sense when wearing and storing your items. I do not advise that you shower, wash dishes, exercise, swim in the ocean, a pool, your tub, a stream, river or any body of water while wearing your treasured item. (Although bronze buckles will develop an interesting green patina when exposed to salt water) Also, DO NOT spray sunscreens, perfumes, hairsprays, lotions etc while wearing any pieces, the chemicals in these products will react with the metals and can drastically change the look of your item. When not wearing your jewelry item its best stored it out of direct moisture. Metals will tarnish when exposed to the air but can be cleaned and polished.

To clean your item please do NOT use commercial grade jewelry dip cleaners, these are too harsh. If you try to use a chemical cleaner it will strip the patina I have deliberately put on your piece. Simply mix a bit of baking soda with warm water and dish soap and use a soft ,sponge, cloth, paper towel or toothbrush to lightly rub the piece in circular motions, then rinse with water and dry completely. You can reseal the metal with a good wax like Johnson's floor wax or If you have any questions about cleaning your jewelry please do not hesitate to ask!

One of a Kind: Due to the fact that all my jewelry is completely hand crafted and hand fabricated many or my items are truly one-of-a-kind. I often work on several pieces at the same time but they all have variations. No one else will have the exact piece of jewelry that you are purchasing. Belt buckles are all signed and numbered. My more expensive items reflect the complexity and time involved in the design of the piece as well as the materials used to make the item.

Stone Color: I try to depict the color of the stones I use accurately. I typically upload 3-5 photos of each item so that every possible variation can be seen. Sometimes there are slight color variations mainly due to different computer monitors and lighting. Unless the stone is VASTLY different than what is shown in my photos, there will be no returns based on stone color. I will be happy to answer any questions you might have regarding stone color, I might be able to provide additional pictures. Feel free to ask any and all questions prior to purchasing
