I began making jewelry because I got tired of seeing myself walking down the street every time I purchased a new pair of earrings or necklace. First, I would just take apart what I had purchased and add something new to make it personal. Then I began to purchase used vintage pieces from thrift stores, re-designing and adding something new to them. My friends wanted me to teach them how to re-cycle thrift store items for themselves. I so love to teach. Now, re-making vintage pieces and selling them is my passion and a way of life for me. I love it and hope you love the pieces I have re-purposed into vintage heirloom jewelry, just for YOU.
The greatest fun is finding these great pieces and taking them apart. Some have only a few very special beads that can be re-used and some are a flora of different styles of beads. You never know what you can find. The search is fantastic.
The next great challenge is coming up with a pattern to use with these great finds. Sometimes, it takes me months to come up with a really sharp pattern effect. Truth be told, I still have some beads I purchased a few years ago that I still have not created a good pattern for their use.
In the last few years, I have side lined to seed beads and it has become more difficult to use the larger beads from yesteryear. My brain really needs to languish to come up with a good pattern at times.
My students in my jewelry making classes use a great deal of these great finds in their projects. Making a very special one-of-a-kind piece of art for themselves.
