Announcement    Have a browse for my new items, I have more upcycled items than ever before!

Please note- I will no longer be offering any refunds for customer's orders held up by couriers or Royal Mail, who are beyond my control. (Lost items which were insured will be refunded). With strikes, varying pandemics, recession, Brexit and shortages, things get delayed in the post, so please plan for this and contact me FIRST for advice if you want something urgently. Especially if you are expecting me to make you something custom!

I ship within the UK mainly (plus a few items to the USA/outside the EU) now, but not the EU sorry due to rising costs and paperwork requirements; but if you would like to discuss one-off shipments please get in touch for a quote.

Please bear in mind everything is much more slow and disrupted than previously! So please don't give me or any other any overseas sellers 1-star reviews for a global situation they can't affect if your order is delayed.

-----------------
MADE TO ORDER items will need to be ordered at least 5 working days earlier than ready-to-ship. Please contact me if you definitely need you item(s) urgently as faster shipping is available at an extra fee as an upgrade (available on most listings when you buy).

Please upgrade your shipping at checkout if you need tracking or faster delivery. Standard shipping from the UK to the US, Canada, Russia or Greenland takes about 2 weeks usually and sometimes more at busy times, so please order custom items bearing this in mind to stand a good chance of receiving them in time. Europe takes a bit less, usually around a week, other countries further away a bit more. Within the UK 2-3 days is usual AFTER the item is made. Shipping times vary and are not guaranteed, sorry, they're just an indication to guide you. Processing times indicate typical times for me to slot your order into my queue but in reality vary. I will let you know if I may not be able to meet my normal timings; please let me know if you timing is tight/urgent. Standard shipping IS NOT TRACKED, please note!

I do accept custom queries- but first do check please, some listings have customisable options - look for the drop-down menus which show the options on each item. If you are browsing by smartphone you may not be able to see that! I can also do variations for most items or small tweaks to create new made to order items- please contact me to discuss your needs.

This shop is my outlet for crafting and sewing supplies, patterns and finished craft items. For unique accessories for special occasions and everyday use, please see my original Etsy shop: www.jezdesigns.etsy.com

    Owner, Designer, Maker, Curator

I'm work in sustainable business as well as making beautiful items, some as commissions. They are getting more sustainable over time. My first Etsy store is jezdesigns (accessories); this one is for crafting, kits and homewares.

Shop policies

Last updated on May 10, 2022
This shop holds all my crafting supplies and homewares along with kits and other bits and bobs. It's an eclectic treasure trove of small items reflecting whatever I'm doing at the time. If you are looking for my accessories or day wear or special occasions please see my other shop at www.jezdesigns.etsy.com

I try to make my range more sustainable over time so you will see patterns for making your own items from fabric leftovers, recycled and upcycled items and kits in the store; as well as things made from new stock.

I also make some custom things but if I'm very busy in my "dayjob" I can only offer variations on what's already in the shop (you'll see my accept custom listings setting is "off" when this happens). If you are only looking for a different fabric, colour or type of something in the shop please contact me nonetheless and I'll see what I can do to help.

I take great care to describe items accurately and charge fairly so please check the listings carefully before buying; it is especially easy to misunderstand sizes so I give everything in inches and cm to help you. If you have any issues with a digital pattern file you've bought please contact me here so I can help solve them.

Cancellations

Cancellations: not accepted

Please contact the seller if you have any problems with your order.

Payment

Payment is due by Etsy checkout or Paypal at the time of purchase- these can also be used to enable you to pay by credit or debit card. As private individual I don't have the ability to take credit cards direct, sorry; nor can I accept US postal orders (paper "checks" issue by USPS and some banks), as they are incredibly expensive and almost impossible to use in the UK.

If you buy but don't pay within 10 working days or reply to contact messages I will assume you don't want the item any more and cancel the transaction. On large custom orders which are not urgent, payment is half upfront as your commitment to buy and acceptance of the specification, and half on completion before I ship.

Prices include a fair labour charge, materials, any development time and system transaction fees; postage includes packaging, fees, standard mail charges (NO TRACKING), my time and fuel. Prices are more dear in the UK for postage than in some other places, please note.

Shipping

I am in the UK, so if you are not this explains a lot of the shipping cost you will see- airmail is involved in delivering your order.

I ship 2nd class in the UK, and standard airmail to Europe and elsewhere- this means NO TRACKING to save money. As I work full time I cannot always get to the post every day so please check, if your order is urgent, to make sure I can get it to you on time! This is especially important with any custom or large order which takes time to make.

Standard shipping does NOT include tracking and insurance; but these are available for an extra charge usually between approx. US$8-10 depending on where you are based. Couriers are faster but cost a lot. If you want these options please see the shipping upgrades on most listings or let me know so I can tell you how much yours will be. Where possible I will use recycled packaging to reduce the impact on the environment- please reuse my packaging sent to you, too; thanks!

Additional policies and FAQs

I do not offer wholsesale services and discounts; my prices are already as low as I can have them and still make any kind of useful income. I work with small run or unique one-off items, occasionally in very small batches.

It is not really possible to offer a blanket guarantee on handmade crafts but if an item fails in normal use within 1 year due to my fault please contact me as I may be able to offer you a partial or full refund under the refund policy above. This does not cover normal wear and tear or kits/supplies and I reserve the right to refuse a refund if the item has been used in a way it was never intended for.

Custom orders involve more work so take longer. If you change your mind during me making you one, you can only obtain a refund of any kind if you contact me before I have expended time and materials. Beyond that I reserve the right to issue a partial or no refund depending on the balance of my payments and costs. If you do not pay the final instalment for a finished custom item and do not respond to contact attempts within 30 days, I will assume you no longer want the item, cancel the transaction and relist the item for sale. I will try to refund you the transaction but this may not always be possible if you go out of contact or change your details.

Privacy

This Privacy Policy describes how and when I collect, use, and share information when you purchase an item from me, contact me, or otherwise use my services through Etsy.com or its related sites and services. It aims to make sure I comply with the new EU GPDR data law on your rights and my responsibilities from May 25th 2018.
This Privacy Policy does not apply to the practices of third parties that I do not own or control, including Etsy or any third party services you access through Etsy. You can reference the Etsy Privacy Policy to learn more about its privacy practices.

To fulfil your order, you must provide me with certain information (which you authorised Etsy to provide to me), such as your name, email address, postal address, payment information, and the details of the product that you’re ordering. You may also choose to provide me with additional personal information (for a custom order, for example), if you contact me directly.

Why I Need Your Information and How I Use It
I rely on a number of legal bases to collect, use, and share your information, including:
• as needed to provide my services, such as when I use your information to fulfil your order, to settle disputes, or to provide customer support;
• if necessary to comply with a legal obligation or court order or in connection with a legal claim, such as retaining information about your purchases if required by tax law; and
• as necessary for the purpose of my legitimate interests, if those legitimate interests are not overridden by your rights or interests, such as 1) providing and improving my services. I use your information to provide the services you requested and in my legitimate interest to improve my services; and 2) Compliance with the Etsy Seller Policy and Terms of Use. I use your information as necessary to comply with my obligations under the Etsy Seller Policy and Terms of Use.

Unlike some sellers I don't store your details separately apart from this and I don't use your details to send marketing info, except anything Etsy sends you independently, such as when I do a shop update or list new item. You need to access your Etsy settings to change that, please.

Information Sharing and Disclosure
Information about my customers is important to my business. I share your personal information for very limited reasons and in limited circumstances, as follows:
• Etsy. I share information with Etsy as necessary to provide you my services and comply with my obligations under both the Etsy Seller Policy and Etsy Terms of Use.
• Service providers. I engage certain trusted third parties to perform functions and provide services to my shop, such as delivery companies. I will share your personal information with these third parties, but only to the extent necessary to perform these services.
• Business transfers. If I sell or merge my business, I may disclose your information as part of that transaction, only to the extent permitted by law. But I currently have no intention of ever selling my business, as it relies in my skills.
• Compliance with laws. I may collect, use, retain, and share your information if I have a good faith belief that it is reasonably necessary to: (a) respond to legal process or to government requests; (b) enforce my agreements, terms and policies; (c) prevent, investigate, and address fraud and other illegal activity, security, or technical issues; or (d) protect the rights, property, and safety of my customers, or others.

Data Retention
I retain your personal information only for as long as necessary to provide you with my services and as described in my Privacy Policy. However, I may also be required to retain this information to comply with my legal and regulatory obligations, to resolve disputes, and to enforce my agreements. I generally keep your data for the following time period: 4 years.

Please note I do not keep Etsy customer info outside of Etsy currently unless there is an issue which means I have to contact you directly via email; in which case it is only present within my webmail platform, as info within emails. I do not store any database of customers apart from that. I currently email via Yahoo- I do try to delete old emails but I cannot 100% guarantee all data is deleted- you should contact your own email provider to delete their records too. I will never use these email details to contact you with marketing information unless you have specifically asked me to come back to you about a product of mine; I hate being mailed adverts and so do most customers- I also mostly make special items you might buy once in a lifetime only. If you are an existing regular customer for other products such as pouches, again I will only store/create your contact details outside Etsy if necessary, and keep for 4 years.

Transfers of Personal Information Outside the EU
I may store and process your information through third-party hosting services in the EU, the US and other jurisdictions as a result of using Etsy and Yahoo. I also use Paypal sometimes when adjusting invoices with you. As a result, I may transfer your personal information to a jurisdiction with different data protection and government surveillance laws than your jurisdiction. When I can identify any privacy framework agreement in action I will post it here in this policy. Etsy Paypal and Yahoo's owning company Oath/Verizon have to be GPDR compliant and have their own policies. So far as I can establish, none of these companies has certified themselves under the Privacy Shield arrangement yet, which is designed to manage these transfers.

Your Rights
If you reside in certain territories, including the EU, you have a number of rights in relation to your personal information. While some of these rights apply generally, certain rights apply only in certain limited cases. I describe these rights below:
• Access. You may have the right to access and receive a copy of the personal information I hold about you by contacting me using the contact information below.
• Change, restrict, delete. You may also have rights to change, restrict my use of, or delete your personal information. Absent exceptional circumstances (like where I am required to store data for legal reasons) I will generally delete your personal information upon request. If it's within Etsy I will have to get their help to do this.
• Object. You can object to (i) my processing of some of your information based on my legitimate interests and (ii) receiving marketing messages from me after providing your express consent to receive them. In such cases, I will delete your personal information unless I have compelling and legitimate grounds to continue using that information or if it is needed for legal reasons.
• Complain. If you reside in the EU and wish to raise a concern about my use of your information (and without prejudice to any other rights you may have), you have the right to do so with your local data protection authority.

How to Contact Me
For purposes of EU data protection law, I, Julie Winnard, am the data controller of your personal information. If you have any questions or concerns, you may contact me at julie [!at] jezdesigns.co.uk. Alternately, you may mail me at:
Julie Winnard, Jez Designs, 72 Waverley Crescent, Wickford, Essex SS11 7LW, UK

Frequently asked questions

Why does the shipping cost so much?

Most folks asking this have not realised that I am in a different country to them. Please double check my location: I am in the UK, so if you are not, this means items have to get to you via airmail. Airmail is based on weight and quite costly compared to land shipping; I choose the best balance of cost and speed for most customers. The shipping charge includes, packaging, postage, any fees I am charged on the transaction, my time and fuel to get to the post office or courier. Many listings also include an optional upgrade with tracking, or courier services.

Can I get discounts/do you do wholesale?

Please check my other shop policies- but the short answer is no, as I make small numbers and one-offs, like many Etsy sellers. I can sometimes offer a small discount on grouped orders (3-7 items usually) of very similar things, and will always refund any excess combined shipping if it is significantly over the actual cost.

Why do your small items cost so much?

I live in the first world (the UK) and make custom items in small numbers. The price has to cover my time, costs and skill as well as the fabric as I try to pay my bills this way. Large textile factories use cheap labour to make very large numbers of the same item, which means they can charge much less. But then they will not be able to make single custom items for you.
If you are looking for something standard, there are commercial resellers of these items. For larger cheaper batches see the wholesalers within Etsy (new feature). If you are interested in whether your items are made by a fairly paid workforce, buy Fairtrade, or checkout the many websites which discuss this issue.

Why hasn't my item/order arrived yet?

Please check the processing time on the listing you bought, and the shipping tab for typical shipping times. Postal services have been particularly variable in the USA in the last 2 years and small or large parcels can be very fast, or take over 5 weeks to arrive. I have no control of this, sorry. If the time of arrival matters or the item is over about $30 I recommend you upgrade to tracked and insured shipping so at least we have some way to get USPS to look for the parcel.

So far, no US parcel of mine has been completely lost but a very small number have got stuck or lost in customs or been sent on to random 3rd countries before eventually turning up. Please be patient and chase USPS.

Are you GPDR compliant?

Yes - please see my privacy policy for more details. I do not store Etsy customer details outside Etsy unless some problem or question causes a need to do so, such as adjusting an order and sending you a Paypal invoice for extra services/items we agree to add. I do not create a database of customers separately nor produce marketing bulletins/newsletters currently. Any updates you get should be within Etsy and you can turn those on/off by accessing your settings here.
